Word is not saving changes to documents

We would like to know more about your concern regarding the Word files. Kindly answer the questions below:

• Have you tried checking your OneDrive account?
• Did you save the edited files on a different folder?

If you saved the file with "Save As" option, there's a possibility that you changed the file name unnoticed. Try to search for other Word files on your computer and see if the edited files are present.

I had not check my OneDrive Account before you asked, so I did now. But unfortunatly the wordfiles aren't there.  I did not save my edited files on a different folder ( I already checked that). I saved it in the Documents folder.

The other options you mention doesn't work either. I did not save the file with the 'save as...' option

I find it rather strange that Word does not store the processed files as they should

I am experiencing the same problem.

For the first time in weeks I shut down word last night and everything was fine.

This morning I open a new document and get started and when I go to save it it won't save.  Not in .docx or in .doc.

It WILL save documents previously saved, but only if I haven't added anything.

As far as I know I have not installed any updates, although this sounds a lot like the problems people have been having after your last update (which you suspended, if I remember correctly, because documents were being DELETED/UNRECOVERABLE).

I am using MS Office 365.

I don't use the other applications in the suite so I wouldn't know if they were wonky or not.

No I am not saving my documents to an external drive.   Not as far as I know at least.

It should be saving to C drive.

HOWEVER:

Local Disk C --> Program Files (x86) --> Microsoft Office

Is EMPTY

Local Disk C --> Program Files --> Microsoft Office 16

is also EMPTY

This PC --> Documents is still there but, again, I can't save anything.

To say that I am less than happy is rather understating the case, I think.

I'm sorry to hear your problems but relieved it's not just me! Did you begin to experience these problems recently or has it been longer term? Are you running the latest versions/patches of W10 and Word? Are you logged into OneDrive? Do you get this just from USB or does it happen on your C: drive, network drive, etc.? Is it particular users or just yourself?

It's a nasty little gremlin that has the potential for massive impact. Not saving when one clicks on the save button is just a danger that really shouldn't happen - in my experience (35 years IT, 13 in an academic environment) this has never happened before in any operating system or package that I've worked with. We have vocational students as well as academics, teenagers to 70+ year-olds, full-timers, part-timers, etc. spread over 3 universities so there's a wide spread of IT experience and even if we could contact them, what could we say? "Save your work regularly but don't rely on clicking on the save button because it doesn't always work"? 

We can't even rely on the PDF option that you suggested. By definition, our users have very complicated documents - dissertations that contain tables, figures, questions, format changes, heavy use of Styles, captions, cross referencing, academic referencing add-ins and more - and opening these using Word reads some of the complicated stuff in as diagrams and loses some of the embedded navigation referencing. We can really only rely on PDFs for the users to be able to copy the raw text they've typed back into the document that was supposed to have saved when they clicked on the save button (better than nothing, but a solution to a problem that just shouldn't  exist).

We're just hoping that installing the latest image that contains all safe updates and patches resolves the problem. I'll keep you posted if we get any progress, in the meantime good luck!

I've already tried that. Didn't help. There were no asd-files found.

I have the same problem.

I made a document in Word2016 (outlook365) on 2-25-2018 on my pc. It had 12 pages.

I copied this document to my laptop while travelling to the USA. In the USA I made changes to this document almost daily. No problems were noticed.

To be safe I sent the docment (now about 30 pages) after a few days with my gmail-account to my own mailbox. 

Yesterday I came home and moved (not copied!)  the document (now 50 pages) to an USB-stick and copied it to my harddrive. 

The document was now only 12 pages!

I opened my e-mailbox to restore the document I made when it was 30 pages: and that file has also just 12 pages. In both cases the date is set on 2-25-2018. That was the document I made at first!

Both my laptop and PC runs on WIndows 10. My laptop has Word 2007.

On my laptop I saved my document under /documents.

On my PC I save the document on a WD My Cloud Mirror.

Of course: I should have saved it directly in the cloud, but unfortunatly I didn't.

What is reason that the changes in my doc-files have disappeared?
