Planner Task Link Attachment To OneNote Page 'Invalid'

Good Morning,

Has anyone experienced an issue with the Task Attachment Links to OneNote becoming 'invalid urls'?  I have several Teams that have Planners and OneNote notebooks.  I typically have added a link on individual tasks to individual pages in the OneNote notebook for the Team/Planner group.  A few days ago, I noticed these links were still taking me to the OneNote notebook but not to the page...they were taking me to the first section first page only.

When editing the link anything to a page is considered an invalid url now.

Hi All,

Thanks for all your feedback! We have involved more resources to check this issue and will share the updates once available. Here I would like to provide a summary so that other community members can easily identify the symptoms.

Symptoms:

When we go to Planner task > add attachment > Link > Add the link, we will get error message “Please enter a valid url” if the link including symbols like & ! ^ * “”

Assessment:

More resources have been involved to check this issue. We will post back when there is any update.

A fix will be coming out soon in future releases.

    Right. That was the point of this thread. As far as I know, the Planner link functionality never broke for everything. It just stopped working a few months ago for links generated by OneNote on the desktop. It used to work fine before that.

    And hence my frustration that we are at least 3 months after the "fix coming soon" post and still no fix.

    I noticed when installing Office365 Home edition on a couple new computers that it did NOT install OneNote 2016. I can't remember for sure but I think OneNote Online is now basically included in Windows 10. It took a while to Google a download link to actually get desktop OneNote 2016.

    Links copied from OneNote Online work fine pasted into Planner.

    So my theory is Microsoft has no real interest in fixing this issue. They want us to use OneNote Online. And the more we struggle with issues like this, the quicker we'll give up on the desktop version.

    On a side note, you don't have to paste the OneNote 2016 link into a text file to edit it. You can paste it in to a Planner task link and then just backspace until you reach the onenote: part of the link and then the Save button lights up. I don't know which method is more tedious.

    Thanks for the detailed information.

    It seems that the issue is partly fixed. It still does not work with the OneNote link. I will report back to our related team. Once there is an update, I will post back.

    Ran, this is not working. It isn't parsing the URL correctly. When you copy from OneNote 2016, OneNote gives you two URLs at the same time and it is on two rows.

    The first URL starts with the HTTPS:// url, and the second starts with onenote:https://

    Normally the app you are pasting in only accepts one URL and discards the other. So if I paste this into Excel, it only accepted the https:// link and discarded the onenote: link.

    If I paste it in OneNote, it only accpts the onenote: link and discards the HTTPS:// link.

    If I paste it in Planner, it accepts both links and then says it isn't a valid link. Well of course it isn't. It is two links and it should not accept the onenote: link.

    The only fix is to paste the links into notepad first, delete the onenote: row, then paste just the https: link.

    Note that this used to work before this thread got started. I've been pasting OneNote links into Planner since it was in beta in 2016 I think, at least when it started accepting links. But whatever changed in Q3 or so of 2018 it quit looking at what was getting pasted in and just accepted the whole thing from OneNote.

    I have tried this with two different Office 365 tenants and both Planners say it is an invalid URL.
