OneDrive crashes and deletes itself

On my laptop OneDrive (which has been working flawlessly for years) now crashes at random. It won't restart.  In fact it seems the exe file has disappeared.  I need to unistall it and reinstall it.  Had to do this three times in the last three days.

There are no error messages - the icon just disappears.

How do I diagnose and cure this?

    I have the same problem on my Win10 laptop on wifi and my Win7 desktop CAT 7 connection.

    I even upgraded from Onedrive personal to Onedrive Business hoping this would fix the problem.

    I use Malwarebytes, but I don't think that is the problem. 

    I have to uninstall and reinstall Onedrive every few days.  Then I get sync errors and duplication on the new download

    It doesn't even do a real uninstall, just a flicker and then it's gone.

    The OneDrive.exe file just disappears from where it should be.

    I use CCleaner and usually I can get it uninstalled.

    So now back to synching 120 gb - there are no changes from just before it uninstalled itself.

    I actually tried calling microsoft, but they are no help, keep disconnecting me without ever giving me a case number.  Or they transfer me to the activation department.

    Onedrive for Business does uninstall itself as soon as you start using that one instead of the personal version.  I've been at this for about 3 weeks now.

    I just added an exclusion to Malwarebytes to not touch the folder where it is located.  We'll see if its still there tomorrow.

    C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\Microsoft\OneDrive

    I also moved the onedrive.exe file to that folder from the downloads folder.  So now I have a OneDrive.exe and OneDriveSetup.exe and OneDriveStandaloneUpdater.exe.

    David IOW - thanks for this - in parallel with you I'd tried making a copy of the exe file and copying it back post delete - and that seems to restore it... although as other posters say, it then needs a big synch.. and produces errors and duplicates.

    You don't say if you're running Malwarebytes - so far this is feeling like a common factor from other posters...?
