OneDrive crashes and deletes itself

On my laptop OneDrive (which has been working flawlessly for years) now crashes at random. It won't restart.  In fact it seems the exe file has disappeared.  I need to unistall it and reinstall it.  Had to do this three times in the last three days.

There are no error messages - the icon just disappears.

How do I diagnose and cure this?

    So with Malwarebytes seeming a common demoninator in many case, I went digging on their site and it seems there have been issues with one of their components. It has only just been updated and is supposed to fix the problem. I have just updated and re-installed OneDrive so I'll see how it goes.

    After spending some time on the phone with M$ Support, I found a way to reinstall OneDrive faster and without the need to reconnect your accounts:

    Navigate to Users/[yourUser]/AppData/Local/Microsoft/OneDrive. Inside this folder you should see one or more folders with what look like version names. Open the most recent one (the one with the highest version number). Apparently if there are a lot of files and  language folders inside it means this was a failed update. Simply run the OneDriveSetup.exe located inside.

    This should restore onedrive.exe and re-sync all your accounts without the need to reboot.

    Not really a solution but at least it makes re-installing easier.

    NB: it could be that onedrive.exe dissappearing has something to do with a failed update process.

    That does tie in with what Malwarebytes have said about the problem with their stuff - it seems it was preventing installs from happening correctly. I now have the latest MWB and OD versions installed and will monitor what happens with that. Regardless, if you use MWB I would update immediately anyway as despite the update being available for a few days, mine had not auto-updated - possibly it was regarded as a small, low priority update as only one component had changed.

    Seems MWB are still working on this - I got this email from them yesterday about my open ticket. The "They" in it refers to the wider MWB team

    They are working on the fix - you will need to exclude the Onedrive folder on whichever computer you have it on.

    Interesting, I thought it was done and dusted. I did look last night and OneDrive is still working on my machine, albeit I have the exclusions for the OneDrive folder in MWB and the latest version of both MWB and OneDrive. it is possible that OneDrive hasn't been updated since the last install so We'll see what happens.

    That being said, I had the exclusion in the older version of MWB and that still didn't work for me.
