Microsoft Office 2011 Mac 64 bit upgrade

Just thinking loud here: anyone tried the VM approach?If you are running Catalina then you have a decent machine. You can make an iso image of your 32 bits-friendly Mac OS and run it on the VM, then run Office 2011 on the VM. 

Performance-wise, Word is not too demanding (beside the Microsoft garbage collection spinning wheel for masochists). And legally, you are allowed to run a Mac OS on a VM ... as long as it is on a Mac :-) https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6135949. 

Just food for thoughts. I'm sure someone has tried it out and can confirm?

Office 2011 is a great product. There's no question or quibble from me. It's still the only way Mac users can make or edit Userforms in VBA.

However, Office 2019 has some new features that have become critical (for me). The accessibility checker combined with artificial intelligence for adding alternative text is a godsend. Excel gains an incredible number of features including a built-in SQL server ODBC driver, Ideas, and is receiving updates to support PowerPivot and PowerQuery. Support for 3D svg files is an awesome addition. PowerPoint's live captions is amazing. For those of us who need these features, 2019 is essential and very nice.

Now that Catalina has been installed, then i cannot use my Office 2011 package. Is there any way that i can get that to work, or do i have a worthless Microsoft Office package, and then i am forced to buy a newer version, that might work for some years.

The consequences are, that i am starting to use Macs programs, pages, keyword, etc. because i cannot continue with my Microsoft Office package.

If there is a workaround, please help me.

I do not know which part of the country that you live. Please do not tell me :>). However, in my neck of the woods, a number of former Apple/Mac experts have opened repair shops for used or vintage Macs which still work using old software versions. I have decided to remain in Mojave (I found an oasis of 32 bit).  I also have another old iMac that works well with Lion. I let guests use it for Internet and streaming. In that respect the Mac products can work until the pixels die.

To your situation, you can try asking your local Apple store to regress the software back to Mojave. I do not know if they will help you. If not, go to your local Mac repair shop and they can regress the software for you. You should back up all your personal data on an external drive and regress the software back to Mojave. I feel confident that these guys now make a nice living regressing computers like yours.

If you see the response from Jim Gordon, MVP, Office 2011 will work in perpetuity; probably the best version of Office ever made. But, Microsoft has to make money, hence, you get garbage like Office 365, or Office 2019 for Mac, which I had to buy for a new 64 bit Macbook. Instead of keeping making 64 bit Office 2019 a replication of 32 bit Office 2011, MS reorganized some of the commands and made it more confusing, less intuitive and left  plus some clunks and glitches. Basically, MS has made us Beta test a piece of junk.

Bottom line: Office 2011 behaves like a classic car. It does not have the latest gimmicks and gadgets but, man, it will get you where you need to go... in style.
