I have been using Microsoft Word for iPad to write and edit documents for a while now and it has been working well. I have some custom fonts installed on my iPad, and those have been working great with Word as well. Until iOS 11. After I updated my iPad to iOS 11, I got an error message every time I opened a file that relied on my user-installed fonts: “There is insufficient memory or disk space. Word cannot display the requested font.”. And the file closes and/or stays open but doesn’t display my fonts. Is this a known issue? Anyone experiencing this? I’m hopeful that this will be addressed in the first post iOS 11 update for Word, but I haven’t seen anything about it online.

The most recent update (v 2.8, released 11 Dec 2017) has marginally improved this problem.
I still get the error message when opening a document using custom fonts, but the document will now at least open, and the custom fonts are displayed as courier, and are editable.
My custom fonts are shown in the drop-down font menu as "iOS fonts", in contrast to "Office-compatible fonts".
If I manually apply them to any text in a document, the result seems to be something displayed at 0.1 point of text size! I get pages of text that is reduced to small black blob on the page!
It is now possible to make-do, seemingly, but this is still far from satisfactory for a paid service which no longer works as it did previously.
Any update with the fix to custom installed fonts in IOS Microsoft Office? This is a huge problem as I am unable to open and edit my company reports while on the road. We are using a very expensive OTF font that we leverage on all of our platforms (Macs, Windows PCs, iOS devices) and this has become a very serious issue in the past two months with the iOS functionality broken.
I'm another one with this problem.
Everything was fine before iOS 11; now it's up the proverbial.
I've tried deleting and re-installing Word for iPad, and deleting and re-installing the font profiles. They work fine in apps such as Airmail.
They don't work in Word.
They do work in other Office-compatible apps.
I've tried SmartOffice — doesn't render them correctly, but does identify the fonts correctly, and simply substitutes them.
Ditto with Docs to Go.
Ditto with Apple's Pages.
Ditto with Google Docs.
Displays properly in Dropbox on iOS.
Displays properly in Documents by Readdle.
The common theme in all this is that user fonts will either work, or at least be substituted, in any and all iOS apps.
Except Word for iOS. Since iOS 11 rolled out.
What does that tell you Microsoft?
You need to fix it.
I am having the same issue and the font works well in all other apps but Word. The problem started with the last iOS update and the newest bug fix has not resolved.
I cannot get any of the documents to open in Word. I cannot open a document from someone else that uses the font. I cannot change the font because the documents won’t open. Additionally when I change a font in Word to the font in question Word crashes. Please send ideas for a fix.
