FIXMAPI 1.0 MAPI Repair Tool has stopped working

I have a user that is running Windows 10. We are using Office 365. She is trying to send an snip from the snipping tool through email. However when she sends it she get the FIXMAPI 1.0 MAPI Repair Tool has stopped working. The email still goes through but the popup message is annoying.

I have searched and looked through other topics and the suggestions have not worked for this. I have renamed the MAPI32.dll and ran the fixmapi.exe and that has not resolved the issue. I have ran an online repair on the Office 365 and that also has not fixed the issues. Any suggestions on what to look at to resolve this issue?

Good morning, all!

We opened a support case with Microsoft.  Here is the information on the fix for this issue.  It looks like fix won't be released until September.  I just wanted to share.

From Microsoft:

We have received another related incident like this and there is a fix that has been put into build 16.0.8420.100. However, the fix is not available at the moment but you can check our site for availability.

Just like B1P the issue is with the default snipping tool. I have disabled add-ins and attempted to run in safe mode and it has not resolved the issue. I have gone through all the same troubleshooting that B1P listed in their last response. The closest I have come is by doing a full uninstall and reinstall but that only lasted for about a week and the problem came back. I am now seeing this issue with several of our users. The users that are having the issue all are on Windows 10. I have not come across any users having the issue that are still on Windows 7.

I have found today a client with the same issue running Win 7 on MS Outlook 2016 MSO 10.0.8229.2086 Updated to the next release I think it was 2023 and was still getting the same crash warning

Yes, default snipping tool and context menu for Sent to recipient.

I have tried safe mode and disabling add-ins.  I don't have any add-ins for Outlook voicemail integration.  The only add-ins were for AV and Exchange.

I also tried everything on the web I could:

    • resetting the Outlook defaults for MAPI
    • repairing the OST file
    • making a new profile
    • running FixMapi.exe after removing the mapi32.dll file on both 1607 and 1703
    • Uninstalling and installing
    • Repairing Office both online and offline
    • The error doesn't occur when downgrading back to v.16.0.8201.2102 from a higher one

    The failing app is C:\windows\SysWow64\Fixmapi.exe

The failing module, according to Event Viewer, seems to be C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Office16\mso20win32client.dll. However mso20win32client.dll doesn't exist in that location in either working or failing versions.

I did find the files here and here:

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\root\vfs\ProgramFilesCommonX64\Microsoft Shared\OFFICE16

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\root\vfs\ProgramFilesCommonX86\Microsoft Shared\OFFICE16

After my findings, it would seem this is an Office C2R core files problem. Not an user profile problem.

    Hi All,

Regarding the Snippting tool, do you mean the default Snipping tool in Windows?

I've just done a test to use this tool and click the Email recipient (as attachment) button to send a test email successfully. No error occurs.

You may check whether there is any third party software/add-in that was installed that had Outlook voicemail integration installed.

Meanwhile, please also enter Outlook in safe mode to see if there is any improvement.

    Thanks,

    Lance
