I use several templates that have bold, italic, and underlined headers/paragraph headings. Every now and again when I open these templates (and any document based on them) none of the formatting is displayed on my PC screen ie the whole document looks like it is typed in plain times roman 12 with no bold, italic, underline anywhere.
I have opened word 2016 in safe mode and the same thing is occurring.
I have printed a page that I know should have the formatting and it is printing plain too.
I have not touched the formatting in any way.
I have found that, randomly, rebooting will solve the issue and the bold etc displays and prints. However, for the last couple of days this is not working.
Also, when viewed on a PC I send the completed docs to, all the correct formatting is displayed?!
Any ideas?

Just to add, this is the 'reveal formatting' information. It says bold and italic but the text on the screen is plain.

As I replied to your email, somehow TNR Bold had been applied as direct formatting. On my end, selecting text and pressing Ctrl+Spacebar to remove the direct formatting, then reapplying the bold formatting, corrected the problem in the Reveal Formatting task pane.
It certainly sounds like there are problems beyond what we can handle here. Have we established whether you experience the same problems in Office Safe Mode?
I apologise if I have not been clear. It has only ever applied to a specific template and all documents based on that template and only on my PC. All other docs/templates I have/use are fine.
The issue happened only with the same template/documents based on that temolate intermittently prior to 4 March but since then, when I did the 'online repair', the isse has not gone away at all.
The template and docs based on it display/print incorrectly only on MY PC/from my printer, when I send to someone else they are fine.
Other things that have happened since the 'online repair' - misspelt words, I correct it in autocorrect (add to dictionary) close autocorrect and a totally random word appears tagged on to the word before the one I have just corrected, so say I have typed 'the silly catzs' I highlight thr wrong word, type the correct word in autocorrect and click add (the autocorrect takes about 5 seconds to return to the document which is also new) and I will then have something like 'the sillymanagement cats'.
Documents are randomly opening in read only. They are not created or saved as such. No folder's properties are set to read only neither are document settings.
Word randomly hangs for up to 2 mins (this prompted the initial repair and the final online repair) it still happens, particularly when word autosaves.
Not having had these issues before, I can only assume they are since I repaired word using the online repair which turned out like a complete reinstall, had to enter key, put in what documents I wanted office to open etc
it is all extremely frustrating and I cannot seem to get the issues resolved.
When I say "not document-related," I mean that it doesn't occur only in a specific document. The last I heard it was intermittent in that it not only appeared differently on a different machine but also sometimes on the same machine. If the problem is now consistent across all documents on the same machine, then perhaps another repair?
It is no longer intermittent it has been permanent since the online 'repair' (should say reinstall). When you say not document-related, what does that mean?
I was hoping someone could explain why the reveal formatting appears so differently.
