AutoSave switch greyed-out.

"AutoSave is enabled when working on a file that is saved to OneDrive, OneDrive for Business, or SharePoint Online. If the file is saved to another location, then AutoSave is disabled. This will happen if your file is on a SharePoint On Premises site, a file server, or saved to a local path like C:.

There are other reasons AutoSave could be disabled as well. For example, if your file is in an older format like .xls, .ppt, or .doc., it will be disabled. It will also be disabled if your presentation is in slide show mode, or if your workbook contains password protection. If AutoSave is disabled, you can always hover over the AutoSave switch and a tooltip will tell you why it's off."

And what if you save a file to your local OneDrive folder that is synced to the cloud?

Autosave should on in that case, instead it's still greyed out.

When will the idiots at MS realise that most people (especially professional users) do not want to constantly directed to the internet or cloud when performing a function.

WE don't want to backup to the cloud unless WE decide to, when it suits US.

WE don't want to to search for images online from an Office program - that's what Google is for (or iStock, or Getty, etc)

These should be last choice, buried options, not ones pushed on you every time WE try to do something.

And as the MS Cloud advertisment - what is that awful accent the narrator punished my ears with? Please use someone who speaks English next time.

I contacted MS today regarding the safelink protection snafu and have virtually have decided to start switching over to using gmail in replacing Hotmail as my default. MS or any vender for that matter should force the consumer/end-user to accept a form of protection without explicit permission form the owner's email. This is something I would expect from communist countries, to force end-users without a choice.

I have exactly the same issue in Excel.

I open the file located in my One Drive (default directory on my 'C' drive) and AutoSave is greyed out.

So I then went to the web version of the file and selected edit the file in Excel, this opens the file in Excel on the PC, AutoSave no longer greyed out!

Strange issue as some of my Excel files can be opened directly from One Drive on the PC with AutoSave enabled, others are not.  Unable to identify why.

I save to iCloud because I found OneDrive to be unreliable. I will just keep saving files manually.

Interestingly, when I hover the mouse over the AutoSave switch, the tooltip says "Automatically Save"...which I think I had already guessed!
