Same thing is happening to me with office 365 and I'm doing the same thing, just clicking the x, no need to downgrade, but it is annoying and I thought initially I had a virus that was trying to contact a subroutine or something like that, so I really worried.

I just wish the get rid of that and fix the problem that seems to be all over the place, instead of requesting the same information over and over from each user that reports it.

I have the same problem with MS Excel, and the problem started after the latest Office updates, so you need to fix something on your side Microsoft.

I didn't have this problem until you introduced the new version with the auto-save button in the corner.

Furthermore, even when I enter the correct account and password it just asks for it again.

Same issue here, except this time it happened to me with PowerPoint and I was unable to log in or close the message. The program was frozen. I had to shut down PowerPoint using the task manager and lost about 30 minutes of work despite having saved numerous times. Definitely a One Drive issue.
