Hybrid Migration from Exchange 2016 to office365

Hi MS,

I am in the planing phase of doing 10 users Pilot Hybrid migration to office 365 in E3 plan using our Volume licence.

We have two 2016 exchange servers running in DAG

We also have email filtering done via Mimecast and for purpose of this exercise i want to leave email filtering to mimecast and not use EOP.

I want to get a clear idea of exact steps I need to take to configure this.

However, before I do anything i want to make sure it does't affect our SMTP or any other users from reading tons of articles and some previous experience with office 365 this are the steps i think needs to be performed.

  1. use exchange server deployment assistance

 - check prereq - all good

My questions  Questions are 

On step 14

If i add this TXT record this will not affect any mail flow this is purely for domain verification? 

Question 2

on the step 15 -29 here

will that affect any existing mail flow or existing connectors as we have few there

Question 3 

overall understanding is mailflow will still be going through exsting exchange server and other 240 users will not be affected and not other server or services such as smtp, scanning service will be affected due to this. 

We never need to change MX records and we don't have to make any changes to mimecast?

Please clarify these ASAP, would be really appreciated.

    Hi Erick, 

    yes, its working not to the clean up tasks

    I have migrated about 40 users to office 365 in Hybrid at the moment but now same user's have mailboxes in office365 and local exchange as well. So its duplicates

    Is it safe to delete their mailbox from local exchange to make space of our storage?

    We have 350 users to migrate and currently using quite a large storage requirement.

    Hi Roy,

    The article is related to remote migration (Hybrid migration). You can use the throttling in your scenario. For example, you can change the migration service throttling. However, if you have started the batch, you cannot change it now,

    You can also change the maximum number of MRSProxy connections for the on-premise servers. Here is a reference:

    Hi Erick,

    We have implemented Hybrid 0365 now in pilot stage.

    We have 3 users synced and migrated now, mail flow is working

    Since we are on Exchange 2016 we used remote migration to migrate user

    User 1    550 MB  mailbox     upload time 7 mins  During the day GMT +8

    User 2    9GB GB  mailbox    upload time 3 hours 5:30pm

    User 3    6.7 GB mailbox   upload time 3 hours 9:00am

    That url doesn't talk about remote migration, how can we speed things up? Throttling doesn't apply in our seniario? 

    Firewall ports are open and we have 100MB/100MB fibre link

    Hi Roy,

    Many factors will affect the performance of the migration. Generally, single mailbox move throughput is in the 0.3-1.0 GB/hour. It also depends on your network and other aspects. We recommand you do it on weekends. It is good for users. You can check the detailed information in the link below:
