Hybrid Migration from Exchange 2016 to office365

Hi MS,

I am in the planing phase of doing 10 users Pilot Hybrid migration to office 365 in E3 plan using our Volume licence.

We have two 2016 exchange servers running in DAG

We also have email filtering done via Mimecast and for purpose of this exercise i want to leave email filtering to mimecast and not use EOP.

I want to get a clear idea of exact steps I need to take to configure this.

However, before I do anything i want to make sure it does't affect our SMTP or any other users from reading tons of articles and some previous experience with office 365 this are the steps i think needs to be performed.

  1. use exchange server deployment assistance

 - check prereq - all good

My questions  Questions are

On step 14

If i add this TXT record this will not affect any mail flow this is purely for domain verification?

Question 2

on the step 15 -29 here

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/exdeploy2013/Checklist?state=3229-W-EwAIAAAAQAAAAAEAAAAAACAAAABEaAOFAAA~

will that affect any existing mail flow or existing connectors as we have few there

Question 3

overall understanding is mailflow will still be going through exsting exchange server and other 240 users will not be affected and not other server or services such as smtp, scanning service will be affected due to this.

We never need to change MX records and we don't have to make any changes to mimecast?

Please clarify these ASAP, would be really appreciated.

    Hi Roy,

Thanks for your reply in the private message.

Please provide me the PowerShell results at your convenience. I can check them further.

    Best Regards,

    Erick

    Hi Roy,

Please try removing the “From” email address and type in another email address you want to see whether there are any improvements. If the issue persists, I’d like to collect some information to check it further:

    1. Can you upload some screenshots when you click the “From” button?
    2. Please also provide a screenshot of the Send As permission page in EAC.
    3. If possible, can you send a test email and save it to a msg file? I want to check the mail header. To protect your privacy, I have sent you a private message to collect them. Please click on the link below to access your Private Message:

    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/privatemessage/inbox

    1. If you assign a new user with the “send as” permission, does the new user have the same issue?
    2. Can you run the PowerShell and provide the following results of commands?
    1. Connect to Exchange Online PowerShell
    2. Get-RecipientPermission -Identity boss_account             (please let me know the PA’s account in the private message.)
    3. get-mailbox -Identity boss_account | fl *behalf*
    1. Based on your information, you mean the issue disappears when you create a new profile on another commuter? If so, you can try creating a new profile on the problematic computer.

Note: Please back up your data and don’t delete the old profile. It will affect your data.

    Best Regards,

    Erick

    Hi Eric,

We already have this setting in place "send as" but still office 2016 doesn't give you option to choose another user from "from" section to select another user.

If we send the invite with above setting in place we can still see "on behalf off" in the invite.

The only way we can achieve this by using another outlook profile of another computer, which is very big inconvenience specially we had this option in office 2013 prior to office 365.

    Hi Roy,

If I understand correctly, generally, there are two permissions: “Send on behalf” and “Send As”. If you use “Send on Behalf”, recipients will see “someone on behalf of someone”. If you don’t want users to see it, you can use the “Send As” permission. Here is a reference:

    https://support.office.com/en-us/article/give-mailbox-permissions-to-another-user-in-office-365-admin-help-1dbcf12f-a9de-4d1d-b0b3-a227f8a736d8

I suggest you do it after finish migration. Since you will remove on-premise Exchange servers, I’m not sure whether users are all pure cloud users. To avoid other community member’s confusion, one thread has one issue or one question. If you are the pure cloud users and try the steps in the link above, please post a new thread in our forum (Office > Outlook > system > Office 365 for Business) with detailed permissions. Our engineers will focus on the new thread to help you.

    Your understanding is highly appreciated.

    Best Regards,

    Erick

    Thanks Erick,

Since we have moved to office 365 now we are having problem with one user sending calendar invite on behalf of another user. PA from CEO

But CEO doesn't want the recipient to see the message "on behalf off" message anywhere on that invite. He wants to make it looks like it came from him competently even though his PA has send that invite from her outlook.

In outlook older versions when you created the calendar entry you had the option to choose "From option"

But in 2016 the from option is there but you can't select on it or has a drop down.  PA has full access to CEO's mailbox under delegation but still

Bottom line PA needs to send calendar invite as CEO from her mailbox without any "on Behalf of" and it needs to look like it has come from CEO.

If office 365 and office 2016 there seems to be no ability to do so. Can you confirm? It this feature is not available in office 365/2016 evnironement?

    Thanks
