stdole32.tlb in Excel Windows 10

Everytime I run Excel 2007 in windows 10, the stdole32.tlb box comes up and it has to reconfigure itself.  How do I stop this?

The fix to this problem is simply uninstall KB2767916, restart your computer and then run updates again. That's all.

  Hi Jeff,

           That sounds a very simple fix to the small problem. A question though, how does one - "non computer buff" - search for update KB2767916? When I try to type on cortana search bar I cant - another small problem!

Go to CONTROL PANEL (windows key + r, then type control and press enter).

Click on PROGRAMS and FEATURES.

On left side of screen click on VIEW INSTALLED UPDATES.

Look for the update - "Update for Microsoft Office 2007 suites (KB2767916) 32-bit Edition."

Uninstall it then restart your computer and run windows updates again.

    workaround would be to set excel into compatibility mode windows xp sp2 or 3 or win7 or any.

    Drop the UAC to the lovest

    Then add to registry 

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shell\OPEN-WITH-EXCEL\command

    add to default string value "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office12\exec.exe" "%1"

    Or just run command with admin priviliges

    reg add HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shell\OPEN-WITH-EXCEL\command /f /ve /t REG_SZ /d ""C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office12\excel.exe" "%1""

    Result is, one will be able to open excel files in a way ... right click... chose OPEN_WITH_EXCEL

    Had the same problem (with Excel only, no other Office programs) since general MS updates I could no longer avoid in the last few days. After reading most of this forum, I started with what seemed the easiest experiment - I simply uninstalled anything (from the recent udate) that was labelled excel 2007, but NOT security excel 2007 - just like the previous post, BUT I only uninstalled the latest updates - because the problem never existed with any previous update. I think it was only three updates that I uninstalled. It appears to now be opening and working correctly.

    Its only been an hour - but it works correctly! This would appear to be the simplest fix requiring the least amount of effort - or time wasted by MS!

    This may have helped -- there were also 41 new excel 2007 updates dated 1/20/18 so I deleted them too (except for security updates and 2 that would not uninstall) and for now at least the stole message has disappeared.   We'll just have to keep chipping away!

    Thanks for your help again.

    I managed to use the keyfinder to identify my 2007 product key but when I inserted it in the download tool it came up with an error code and prompted me to contact Microsoft customer services. I have no idea why this happened as I wasn't prepared to sit in queue to explain my predicament.

    Decided to have a go at uninstalling as outlined in your above post and managed to uninstall 7 by working down the list. After that it wouldn't allow me to do any more as apparently I had to wait while it was busy dealing with a previous uninstall. Rebooted a few times but it wasn't having any of it. 

    So I decided to go with what I had and installed the new updates which included quite a few new security updates as well.

    Rebooted afterwards and hey presto all is good with Excel, word and surprise surprise LibreOffice.
