"The file 'name of file' may have been changed by another user since you last saved it. In that case, what do you want to do? Save a copy. Overwrite changes."

I've been using Excel 2016/Office 365 and just recently, I started getting this message: "The file 'name of file' may have been changed by another user since you last saved it. In that case, what do you want to do? Save a copy. Overwrite changes."

I'm the only one working in my file. It is stored on the OneDrive for Business, which is the company supported.

How do I keep this message from appearing?  Or WHY is this message appearing?

I saw a similar post for Excel 2013, but no help was actually given.

    Hi All,

Can you confirm whether you are using OneDrive or OneDrive for Business?

    @Emilie B..,

Please share a screenshot of your Excel screenshot's Product Information with us. It's located under File > Account.

    Regards,

    Sheen

    Hello,

I just wanted to add that I am having the exact same issues, only for a few days.

Sharing the below characteristics that Pascale posted :

    1. I get this message  when I try to save an Excel sheet in OneDrive by clicking on the “save” icon
    2. It tends to happen only after I save a file for the second time : the first time everything works fine, I then continue working and when I save my new input, I get this message. Anytime, I save the file after that, I keep getting that message.
    3. It happens to all my Excel files but not to any other type of files.

Hopefully we can have a solution because indeed it is quite annoying (especially for people like me who save every few minutes)

    Thanks

    Emilie

    Thanks for the response.

    1. I get this message  when I try to save an Excel sheet in OneDrive by clicking on the “save” icon (above the “File” command).
    2. I usually open my files via Quick Access. However, I just now tried to open and save a file directly from my OneDrive and the same thing happened.
    3. Strangely enough, it tends to happen only after I save a file for the second time. I mean, when I save it the first time everything works fine, I then continue working and when I save my new input, I get this message. Anytime, I save the file after that, I keep getting that message.
    4. It happens to all my Excel files but not to any other type of files.
    5. Unfortunately, I can't upload screenshots anymore either. I keep getting this message: Invalid file type. Please select another.  I've tried to upload a Word document and a PDF, neither works.
    6. The message I get when failing to save is: "The file 'name of file' may have been changed by another user since you last saved it. In that case, what do you want to do? Save a copy. Overwrite changes."
    7. The Microsoft Office 365 I have, is Version 1705 (Build 8201.2102 Click-to-Run)

Hope this helps to solve the problem.
