Sharepoint online frequent sites

My frequent sites never changes. It is only showing 3 sites and they are sites I haven't visited in several months. How do I get this to update with actual frequently visited sites?

Considering this thread has aged, it may be difficult for members and us to follow up separately. Besides, the original poster Stacey has resolved the issue, and we have also received feedback from other members that the issue has been resolved itself. This thread will be closed from further posting for affected users to easily identify the information since there may be different root causes for different tenants.

You can follow the steps I mentioned in the summary above to try troubleshooting the issue.

Ensure you have deleted the sites. If you are an admin in the tenant, please try removing the deleted site via Remove-SPODeletedSite command manually.
After you manually delete the deleted sites, please wait for 30 days and check if the situation remains.

If the issue persists, please feel free to post a new thread in this forum, we are more than willing to help you resolve it separately.

We're working on our migration to Office 365 and during testing I created a number of Office365 groups\sharepoint sites. I just went through to clean it out by deleting the test groups and thus the test sites. I was very surprised to see the dozen sites still showing up all over the place. Most were in fact deleted, one seems to still be there, but they're still listed in the OneDrive and SharePoint interfaces.

I like the idea that a group\site can be restored during a grace period, but at time of deletion all references to the group and site should be cleared from the interfaces!

It's well passed April, so is this really planned. It's actually important to not have all these dead sites in people's interfaces.

Unfortunately this has not been fixed and there is no apparent intent to fix it.

We decided to postpone using the sharepoint feature and keep our internal systems for sharing documents as the sharepoint phantom "favorites" site, when clicked, send one to a blank page with "404 FILE NOT FOUND" as the sole text on a blank white screen. It will confuse staff and result in more administrative problems.

It is now August, 2018 with no fix in sight.
