Since the recent Office 2016 updates we have a number of users having an issue with scrolling through emails in Outlook.
Here's what happens;
User opens an email (or replies to an email).
Then the user tries to scroll to the top of the inbox (sorted by date order for example).
After dragging the scroll bar up to the top (via wheel or left click), the scroll bar jumps back down to show the 'active' email in the centre. Basically it keeps the view pane showing the last 'active' email in view.
There's no way of cancelling the active email. The users have to keep clicking higher up the list, or press 'Home' on the keyboard to get to the top.
We have re-installed/repaired 2016 install on multiple machines and it's only been happening since the recent updates.
How do we resolve this? I'm thinking it's a new feature but it's causing a lot of issues.

Correct Luke, no patches are needed. The change is purely on the service side. Outlook will pick up the change from the service and react to it.
I just realized that I use the scroll wheel if I'm moving up or down just a bit and I usually see no problems, but today I tried to drag the scroll bar back a few weeks and that's when I had problems. Typically I use page up / page down on the keyboard when jumping about very far in my email and there's never a problem with that as it selects a new email for every page up or page down you press. The only other thing I need to do sometimes is to go back months in the past, into the section titled 'older', and to do that I usually just grab the scroll bar and drag it there and there is no problem. So what it seems to be is that the scroll bar (dragging or using the mouse wheel) will try to keep you in a section / zone (today, monday,...), unless you go into the *unmonitored* 'older' zone.
Oddly enough, if I'm looking at my newest mail, and I hold down the page down key and go all the way down into the 'older' email, I can then drag the scroll bar anywhere without it jumping back to the last selected email message, *until I close the program*, which seems to reset everything. When I restart Outlook, I will again have the scroll bar trying to keep me in an apparent zone. It seems like paging down through all the 'zones' temporarily sets/clears a flag that then lets you use the scroll bar in a completely unfettered manner.
It would be nice if they documented this stuff better.
Hi Johnebrown,
In Office 365 forum, remote desktop is not supported. We have been aware of this. Thank you for your sharing.

The scrolling issue is a bug that we are tracking but I don't have a release date for the fix. Is the problem bad enough that you would want to try reverting to an earlier version that does not have the bug? I don't know yet what version introduced it but I can post instructions if you want to test with some earlier builds.
