Spell Check not working in Word 365 after automatic update

Hello Stefan,

No, no spellcheck (manual or otherwise) works. To quote Michael above, "Word no longer highlights potential issues, and when I run the spellcheck, even when I KNOW there are misspelled words, spell check completes without prompting me for any problematic words…".

I verified that "Do not check spelling or grammar" under Language is unchecked (I always do), with the same results.

This feature is crucial to my work, so I'll be very grateful if you have any more suggestions.

Suzanne may be you might want to share with others including myself how you can unselect this without the end user having to clear the entire formatting on a large multi page document? 

You don't have to clear any formatting. You can select all the text in the document (Ctrl+A) and then (re-)apply the desired language formatting in the Language dialog box (Review | Language | Set Proofing Language).

Note that "Do not check spelling or grammar" is not a global setting; it applies to the currently selected text range (and it can be added to a character or paragraph style).

If you select a specific word which is incorrectly spelled and which is not caught by the spellchecker, and then look at the setting for "Do not check...," what do you see? Is the option selected?

Also, verify that the correct language formatting has been applied to text. Note that I'm not referring to the default language here, but to the language applied to specific text. In Word, language is a character property, the same as bold or italic.

What I do is select all text and then confirm "Do not check spelling or grammar" is not checked.

When I select a misspelled word, "Do not check…" is in fact unchecked, language setting is correct and MS Word still does not recognize it.

Also, let me say I've been working with MS Word for over 12 years (I'm a translator) and I've never had any situation similar to this one.

I have the same issue especially with grammar checker not working since update.  I have posted a question last week, but am getting no where.  So I am adding to this thread in the hopes that we can relay to Microsoft that this is a real issue.

This issue popped up after the update wherein Microsoft redesigned the Check Document editor.

1.  The first issue is if you do not have "Check Spelling as you type" and/or "Mark Grammar as you type"; running the "ABC Check Document" button from the "Review" tab will not find any errors.  Which makes the Check Document button obsolete.

2.  The next issue is that the Grammar Checking is not working.  It sporadically may find an error but for the most part it does not find obvious grammatical errors at all.  And YES I have checked and double checked all troubleshooting suggestions.

I type:  Lets try this again for heavens sake? - it comes up with zero grammatical errors in that sentence.

I have tried this on three office computers that were updated, and it finds zero errors.  However, on the one computer that has not been updated and uses the old Editor, it find all the grammar errors.

Can anyone confirm whether or not your grammar checker is working after the update?
