Large Word Document spontaneously gains pages or loses words.

When I transfered a large Word 2010 Doc to my new computer (into Word 2016) from the cloud, 1500 words disappeared. Nobody could figure out why or which words were missing.

Now that same file (Word 2016) has spontaneously added 10 pages (it went from 469 to 479 pages), but there are no blank pages and the page format and word count haven't changed. Can anyone tell me what could have happened?

    XE and TC fields are used to mark entries for inclusion in an Index and the Table of Contents respectively and they are formatted as hidden so that (normally) you would not see them, they would not print and they would not take up space in the document.   If you have hidden text displayed however, they will appear in-line with the text and hence change the layout of the document.

    If you are really worried about this matter, send me a copy of the documents and I will investigate the issue.

    I have used the Compare tool on several different versions of this doc. It's a great tool. It confirms that I haven't added anything that would account for 10 more pages.

    What are XE and TC fields?

    The only "hidden texts" I have seen are the Markups under Tracking. I'm familiar with how to change All Markup to No Markup and how that changes the page count when it removes the visual markups. I do that every time I open the file.

    Does the document contain any Hidden text (such as XE or TC fields)? Displaying those would change the pagination and word count.
