Office 365 cloud features do not work when using a privacy VPN

When I have a privacy VPN active (such as Private Internet Access - PIA) I can't access the cloud features on Office 365 (such as online templates, OneNote sync to the cloud, Excel or Word saving to OneDrive directly, etc). I have tried 3 different VPN solutions: PIA, NordVPN and VPNArea and they all exhibit the same issue. Is there a way to solve this or to tell Office to bypass the VPN?

I finally got around to coming up with a fix for Offece365 and OPenVPN problems, I have published a guide to fixing these problems here:

Just wondering if that defeats the purpose of having a privacy VPN (not saying it does, just asking).  Does adding a default gateway in the TAP adapter just cause all traffic to go out via the normal connection and not through the VPN?

i was to earlie , concluding that this was the answer.

in Nord VPN disabled, cyber-sec and use TCP as a connection , but the no internet connection is still displayed.

After disconnecting Nord PVN it works right away, i am going to contact Nord VPN about this.

I switched it to TCP and it worked for a bit, then maybe some updates came out, now it doesn't work anymore.

Were you able to find a solution?? Please share!!

After coming back to PIA after not using any VPN for a year, I noticed the same problems that the OP and many others were having.  I changed from UDP to TCP.  Excel wanted me to sign into Office 365 again.   One Note 2016 wanted me to sign in again also.  It's only been 30 minutes but everything is working well so far.
