This is happening to me too recently. It happens every time I go to copy text in Word. It appears right after I right click and select copy. It is really annoying. I thought it might be a phish so I just delete it. It sounds like a problem with a recent update now though. The screen shot elsewhere in this discussion is exactly what I see. Of note I copied this to paste elsewhere and the message did not appear so it might be restricted to Office.

Hi Everyone,

Since customers confirm the issue has been resolved by updating Office to the latest version, I'd like to make a summary which will benefit other community members who can quickly find the useful information.

Description

Open Word 2016 on Windows, select the text, and then right click it to choose Copy, the following message pops up and ask us to sign in to open

"https://shredder.osi.office.net/ShredderService/api/aadgraph/gettenantdetails"

 

Solution

Update Office to the latest version: Open Word or other Office clients>File>Account>Update Options>Update Now.

    We'll let you know once there is any update from our related team. Please refer to the workaround above first.

    For the step 2) in the workaround above, it is used to clear the Windows Credentials. It will remove the stored passwords from the PC. To do that:

    Right click the Windows icon on the lower-left of the PC>Select Control Panel> Choose User Accounts>Click Credential Manager and select Windows Credentials>Choose the credentials as below and remove them( Office 2013**:MicrosoftOffice15_Data:xxx** or Office 2016: MicrosoftOffice16_Data:xxx).

    Hi,

    I have managed to successfully implement a resolution to this issue.

    After digging around I found that it was linked to the Trust Centre, Privacy Options in Word.  However, simply unchecking the option to "Let Office connect to online services..." does not fully resolve the issue but it does stop the Login popup from presenting itself.  Instead another annoying pop up appears informing you that you do not have internet access from the application.

    It requires a combination of Privacy Option toggling and the Office "SignInOptions" Registry key.

    Here is how I implemented my solution.

    From within Word:

    File - Account - Sign out

    File - Options - Trust Centre

    Trust Centre Options - Privacy Options - In-Check "Let Office connect to online services..."

    Close Word and all other Office Applications

    Open Regedit

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Common\SignIn

    New D-Word - SignInOptions

    Initial Value - 3

    The other possible values of the SignInOptions value are as follows:

    value RESULT
    0 Users can sign in and access Office content by using Microsoft Account or Domain Account/Organization ID.
    1 Users can sign in using Microsoft account only.
    2 Users can sign in using Organization ID only.
    3 Users cannot sign in with any cloud account.

    Leave your Registry Editor open.

    Start Word

    You should notice no pop ups.  However you are not logged in nor have the option to do so.

    Close Word

    Change the Registry key value you just created from "3" to "0"

    You can now close the editor.

    Start Word

    You should notice that it opens without any prompts.

    Now go to "File - Account" and "Sign In".  A prompt will appear asking for this feature to connect to the internet. Select OK.  Follow the prompts to log onto your Microsoft Account.

    Word should now be able to be closed and re-opened as before without the "Shredder" Prompt.

    This did not work for me. I went into credential manager and there were no credentials under Windows Credentials.  I deleted all other credentials under Generic credentials and signed out of MS office. As soon as I signed back in the message popped up again.

    @Phil, thanks for your sharing. But from your registry editor path Office\15.0\Common\SignIn , it seems that you are referring to Office 2013 not Office 2016. Can you confirm it?

    @HMS64, for your situation, please try workaround 1: Ctrl C+ Ctrl V temporarily.
