Split from this thread.

This is happening to me too recently. It happens every time I go to copy text in Word. It appears right after I right click and select copy. It is really annoying. I thought it might be a phish so I just delete it. It sounds like a problem with a recent update now though. The screen shot elsewhere in this discussion is exactly what I see. Of note I copied this to paste elsewhere and the message did not appear so it might be restricted to Office.

Hi Everyone,

Since customers confirm the issue has been resolved by updating Office to the latest version, I'd like to make a summary which will benefit other community members who can quickly find the useful information.

Description

Open Word 2016 on Windows, select the text, and then right click it to choose Copy, the following message pops up and ask us to sign in to open

Solution

Update Office to the latest version: Open Word or other Office clients>File>Account>Update Options>Update Now.

More information

If the issue persists after updating Office applications, please let us know or start a new thread with the screenshots of the Office application version (Go to File > Account, capture a screenshot about the information under Subscription Product and Office Updates)

Thanks,

Felix

    Hi Scott,

To troubleshoot the issue, you may try the following steps:

1.Try using Ctrl+C to copy text to check the outcome.

2.Sign out all of your accounts and clear the Windows credentials, and add your SharePoint Online site to the Trusted sites. To do that:

    a.Open Word>File>Account>Sign Out.

b.exit Office apps>Clear the Windows credentials:Control Panel > User Accounts >Credential Manager > Remove the Windows Credentials (e.g. MicrosoftOffice15_Data:xxx or MicrosoftOffice16_Data:xxx). (NOTE: This will remove your stored passwords.)

c.Restart PC>Open IE > Tools > Internet Options > find Security tab > choose Trusted sites > click Sites button > add *.sharepoint.com to the list>Open Word again to check the outcome.

If that doesn't  help, please provide the following information:

1.Provide Office version and operating system version. To check the Office version: Open Word>File>Account >Check the version number under Office Updates.

2.Confirm whether the Office is downloaded from Office 365 portal at http://portal.office.com/OLS/MySoftware.aspx .

3.What Office 365 subscriptions are you using?

4.Share the screenshots of the issue symptoms.

5.Check if the issue happens to all the users in your organization or a specific user.

    Thanks,

    Felix

Hi, we had same problem today, we fixed it by re-adding new registry DWORD value, named ProtectionPolicy, value 1 to:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Cryptography\Protect\Providers\df9d8cd0-1501-11d1-8c7a-00c04fc297eb

This will enable local backup of the MasterKey instead of requiring a RWDC, which is somehow required to resolve the issue in our environment. We use Samba domain controller and this registry key was needed earlier to properly activate Office 365 Business.
