Split from this thread.

This is happening to me too recently. It happens every time I go to copy text in Word. It appears right after I right click and select copy. It is really annoying. I thought it might be a phish so I just delete it. It sounds like a problem with a recent update now though. The screen shot elsewhere in this discussion is exactly what I see. Of note I copied this to paste elsewhere and the message did not appear so it might be restricted to Office.

Hi Everyone,

Since customers confirm the issue has been resolved by updating Office to the latest version, I'd like to make a summary which will benefit other community members who can quickly find the useful information.

Description

Open Word 2016 on Windows, select the text, and then right click it to choose Copy, the following message pops up and ask us to sign in to open

Solution

Update Office to the latest version: Open Word or other Office clients>File>Account>Update Options>Update Now.

More information

If the issue persists after updating Office applications, please let us know or start a new thread with the screenshots of the Office application version (Go to File > Account, capture a screenshot about the information under Subscription Product and Office Updates)

Thanks,

Felix

    Hi All,

Could you update the Office applications to the latest version and check the result? You can open any Office application > click File > Account > Update Options > Updates Now.

If the issue persists after updating Office applications, please provide screenshots of  your Office application version (Go to File > Account, capture a screenshot about the information under Subscription Product and Office Updates) and the network trace logs via private message:

    Hi Frostyequinox,

Please try the following to see if they work for you:

    1. Press Ctrl + C and Ctrl + V.
    2. If you have signed in to Office applications with your Office 365 account, perform the following steps and check the result:
    1. Open Word, click File > Account > Sign out under User information.
    2. Clear the Windows credentials: go to Control Panel > Credential Manager > Remove the Windows Credentials (e.g. MicrosoftOffice15_Data:xxx or MicrosoftOffice16_Data:xxx). (NOTE: This will remove your stored passwords.)

If the issue persists, please provide the following information:

    1. A screenshot of the version of the Office application. You can check it by clicking File > Account.
    2. Make sure you sign in to Office applications with one Office 365 work account. You can open any Office application > File > Account, under User Information > Switch account, and see if there are any Office 365 work accounts listed under Other accounts.
    3. Some network trace logs and your tenant information. I have sent you a private message to collect them, please check it via the following link:

This error I get doesn't even make sense to me, I don't even use office 365 just the Office 2016 activated with a key.

I started seeing this error recently for no reason that I can determine.

    Why?

Thanks for trying to help, but the information you're asking for could contain confidential data and I'm not at liberty to share that, even in a private message.

    This is obviously a bug.

The problem is that the work-arounds aren't 100% effective and the steps required are unreasonable for some. Try having hundreds of workstations with this problem.

Hopefully you have enough information from other users that were able to share their information and can help Microsoft get this resolved.
