Split from this thread.

This is happening to me too recently. It happens every time I go to copy text in Word. It appears right after I right click and select copy. It is really annoying. I thought it might be a phish so I just delete it. It sounds like a problem with a recent update now though. The screen shot elsewhere in this discussion is exactly what I see. Of note I copied this to paste elsewhere and the message did not appear so it might be restricted to Office.

Hi Everyone,

Since customers confirm the issue has been resolved by updating Office to the latest version, I'd like to make a summary which will benefit other community members who can quickly find the useful information.

Description

Open Word 2016 on Windows, select the text, and then right click it to choose Copy, the following message pops up and ask us to sign in to open

Solution

Update Office to the latest version: Open Word or other Office clients>File>Account>Update Options>Update Now.

More information

If the issue persists after updating Office applications, please let us know or start a new thread with the screenshots of the Office application version (Go to File > Account, capture a screenshot about the information under Subscription Product and Office Updates)

Thanks,

Felix

    Hi Sky Pei,

I'm afraid this reply is seriously unhelpful.

I am not a "tenant" or a "tenant administrator", nor do I have any sort of "support team". I am a sole home office operator (= freelance translator). The long and short of it is that Microsoft is spamming me, my copy of Word is broken, so that I get a bogus bug message at unpredictable times demanding that I register with a site that I am not interested in.

You broke it, you fix it. And sooner rather than later.

And please spare me with the technofreak messages asking me to "just try out the following 24 simple steps and let us know if this fixed the problem".

And in case a copy of this stuff is going to the FBI or Trump Towers, please note that I am not a Muslim, nor a US citizen, nor a US resident. However, I must confess that I am a Brit living in Germany, so I suppose that makes me a double infidel.

    Hi Robertin,

Glad to hear the issue has gone from your side and thanks for your sharing. If the issue reoccurs, please provide the information Felix requested above for our analysis.

    Thanks,

I did a manual update this afternoon.

However, I resolved the issue a week or so ago by logging in to WORD 2016 with a different account name than the one that was originally showing on the top of WORD (OFFICE PRO) 2016.

I was just too frustrated by the whole thing.

I suspect the update may also contain a fix.

I do notto my knowledge have access to Office 365.

    Thank you.
