Excel 2016 - Cannot type anything into a cell all of a sudden

Hi,

I am experiencing a problem with Excel 2016 that is really frustrating.

I am working normally in excel 2016, when all of a sudden I cannot type anything into a cell. If I press Ecs nothing happens. I do not have macros, nor protected sheet or cells. I am working with multiple (2 or more) open excel files at the same time. I tried to figure out, if I press some combination of keys that would cause this, but found nothing. I, however, can move the mouse over the sheet and click different cells. I think the arrow keys work as well.

The strange thing that always "solves" the problem is pressing Enter. Pressing the Enter opens another Excel file that is already opened, and after simply going back to the first one, I then can work on normally. This can occur once, twice but sometimes even 10-times in a single day! Just terrible.

This is time demanding, many times I write into a cell and then see that the cell is still blank, I press the enter to make it work again, going back... - I cannot work like this.

When I was working with the same files in Excel 2013 and 2010 I hadn't have experienced such problems.

I already read some other forums with people experiencing the same problem, but haven't found any solution yet.

Do you have any?

Thank you!

P.

Thank you for the information, it is what I have been experiencing as well.

Microsoft corporate -- If this has been going on for 10 years, that's not right. It says one of two things.

1-we don't know how to fix the problem. Live with it.

2-we don't care enough about this problem to fix it. Live with it.

Just let us know which one it is. Thanks.

The answer to these questions interests me as well.

+1 to this annoying problem.  I think it is only happening to 1 specific worksheet in 1 workbook.

Like so many listed with this NEW PROBLEM, I also cannot find a solution to a protected range of cells.  HOW, WHERE, WHO, can help with this???

Sometimes "improvements or additional features need to be provided with CLEAR, EASY TO FIND, responses!

The spreadsheet I am working on has thousands of data points and all are not secret, confidential, or hidden.  I just want to add data to my spreadsheet without mystery and unexplained or impossible to change "improvements" added and very poor "fix-it" notes added that require extensive off site reviews of unhelpful solutions.  It would be helpful to find a simple, quick and easy solution to unlock sections to my spreadsheet so I can ADD INFORMATION.

The "fixit" documentation is either incorrect or impossible to activate.

Please provide adequate documentation or a real, live, helpful, knowledgeable HUMAN BEING to fix this nuisance!!
