Excel 2016 - Cannot type anything into a cell all of a sudden

Hi,

I am experiencing a problem with Excel 2016 that is really frustrating.

I am working normally in excel 2016, when all of a sudden I cannot type anything into a cell. If I press Ecs nothing happens. I do not have macros, nor protected sheet or cells. I am working with multiple (2 or more) open excel files at the same time. I tried to figure out, if I press some combination of keys that would cause this, but found nothing. I, however, can move the mouse over the sheet and click different cells. I think the arrow keys work as well.

The strange thing that always "solves" the problem is pressing Enter. Pressing the Enter opens another Excel file that is already opened, and after simply going back to the first one, I then can work on normally. This can occur once, twice but sometimes even 10-times in a single day! Just terrible.

This is time demanding, many times I write into a cell and then see that the cell is still blank, I press the enter to make it work again, going back... - I cannot work like this.

When I was working with the same files in Excel 2013 and 2010 I hadn't have experienced such problems.

I already read some other forums with people experiencing the same problem, but haven't found any solution yet.

Do you have any?

Thank you!

P.

Afternoon. Would like to add that I have been experiencing the same problem for awhile now and just found this thread.

Microsoft, you do need to look at this issue as the number of people reporting it is growing.

It does appear to be an issue with having more than 1-2 workbooks open. Again, that appears to be the case. When it does happen, there does not necessarily seem to be a rhyme or reason why, it just locks up. Click on another workbook, come back to the original one, and it unfreezes for the moment.

My warning signs, btw, are all of sudden, not being able to scroll with the mouse wheel, or not being to enter text into a cell.

We have the problem here with ALL the PC we are using (windows 10).

    Excel v16.0.9330.2124

We have been struggling with this issue for many YEARS, and this is amazing that Microsoft could not find a way to fix a very BASIC issue like that.

They simply doing a denial of it ?

To keep you informed: I contacted Microsoft Europe and told them I want to send a written complaint about Excel issues. The lady in the call-center put me on hold and after several minutes told me no such www link exist to where I could send my official complaint. I asked about an e-mail address as well, but after another waiting I then hung-up the phone.

To my surprise I then called our country's representative. They did not know what to do with my matter and told me I could send a written complaint to an e-mail address of a receptionist. They will then try to find someone who should know anything about complaints and deal with this matter.

I am now patiently waiting for their reply.

    Wish you a nice day,

    P.

I would like to add that I am also experiencing this problem.

This happened on both Microsoft 2013 and Office 365.

It is incredibly annoying and I am always worried I am somehow editing the new workbook it suddenly pops me into.

It doesn't seem to be a hotkey, I'm just in the middle of working and I realize I can't type.

Please Microsoft, at least acknowledge that this is an issue.
