Office 16 Click-to-Run Extensibility Component could not modify 137 protected registry keys during installation or update of Office 365

In installing and re-installing Office 365 Home (64-bit install on Win 7 Pro 64-bit), I get approx. 137 Warnings in Event Viewer like the following:

Product: Office 16 Click-to-Run Extensibility Component. The application tried to modify a protected Windows registry key \msinkdiv.InkDivider.1.

I did a deep uninstall and reinstall just to see if this could be avoided, but no.  It happens on each install or repair or reinstall.

Here's all the info for one of these - but keep in mind there are 137 different ones (different keys being named):

    Hi,

The issue that you’ve encountered regarding the protected registry keys that couldn’t be modified is because these files have a specific feature that is specially designed for the program. Basically, if the warning is caused by a trusted program, you can simply ignore it.

On the other hand, if you need additional assistance regarding your concern, we suggest that you contact our Support Team @ 1-800-642-7676 or email them through this link.

If you have other concerns, we encourage that you post it to the Community.

    Joseph - Thanks.

What is the specific feature tied to those keys?  Keep in mind that it is only Microsoft's own updates for O365 that is triggering these warnings.  MS is trying to modify the keys and failing, not me.  This does not look like a feature; it looks like a problem.

Also, your support team have not helped on this.

But what feature is locked by these protected keys?

Just to confirm, are you able to use the Office product? If there's an issue while you're using it, can you provide us a screenshot of the error? We also encourage that you keep your device updated to make sure that your PC is on its maximum performance.

To check for the latest update, go to Windows Update by clicking Start > Settings > Update & security and click Check for updates. It will scan and install all the latest updates available for your device.

If you have other concerns, feel free to post it here in the Community.

Joseph - for detail, please see the start of this thread - all the detail that can be copied from the Warnings is there.

Yes, O365 is working.  I have not actually come across a problem, but my use on the relevant machine has been light.

Yes, I keep my Win 7 Pro 64-but machine totally updated - very attentively.  I have also been attentive to everything shown in Event Viewer and fixed other issues, with help here and on various very good forums.

I wish you had taken the time actually to read a bit more from this thread, especially the start.  Or actually to answer my question two above.

May I ask you to call your best buddy at Office and ask him to advise re this issue?

    Thanks.
