Office 16 Click-to-Run Extensibility Component could not modify 137 protected registry keys during installation or update of Office 365

In installing and re-installing Office 365 Home (64-bit install on Win 7 Pro 64-bit), I get approx. 137 Warnings in Event Viewer like the following:

Product: Office 16 Click-to-Run Extensibility Component. The application tried to modify a protected Windows registry key \msinkdiv.InkDivider.1.

I did a deep uninstall and reinstall just to see if this could be avoided, but no.  It happens on each install or repair or reinstall.

Here's all the info for one of these - but keep in mind there are 137 different ones (different keys being named):

You may be aware that the latest upgrade to Windows 10 is available, the Anniversary Edition. To date I have had no further error entries for 'Click-To-Run' and within 'settings' there is the option to turn on or off notifications for 'Click-To-Run'. So it looks like the incompatibility issue has been addressed in the latest upgrade.

Cromdans - Thanks for info.  Unfortunately, I have the problem on Win 7 Pro 64-bit.

    Questions -

    1)  Do you think the good update was to your Win 10 operating system, or to your Office?

    2)  In Office (Word or Excel), please go to File - Account - Update Options OR What's New.  Do you see any relevant info?

    3)  If you think it was an update to Win 10, which one and what does it say?

If you ever UNinstall and REinstall Office, please re-check Event Viewer and come back here to let us know whether it's all clear or there are new registry key warnings.

    Thanks.

glnzglnz - the problem seems to stem from the compatibility with the 64 bit systems. It is unlikely that there will be any up date or upgrade to Windows 7 to fix this so if you are able to upgrade to Windows 10 on your machine this should be to the latest upgrade of the Anniversary Edition. You do not need to do a clean install as the upgrade will transfer all compatible apps to the new OS, but do back up your data before doing it. I am now running Windows 10, 64 bit, Anniversary  Edition. I also use the Office 2010 home and student edition and not Office 365.

    To all -

My many weekend days with MS O365 Help has gotten nowhere.  With the help of a MS tech2 in India, an unbelievably thorough UNinstall and REinstall of O365 home still generated my 70± Warnings that something "tried to modify protected registry keys", many of which are about msinkdiv.InkDivider.

The tech2 insisted this is normal.  What total garbage.

    Has anyone had better luck?
