Excel 2016 Mac Problem Bug Linking Cells Between Worksheets

I have multiple worksheets in my excel document. I am trying to link data from a cell on worksheet 2 to a cell on worksheet 1. I enter "=" in the cell on Worksheet 1 and then click on Worksheet 2 and go to the cell that I want to reference/link. When I click on it, nothing happens in the cell on Worksheet 1. Yet the formula appears on a random cell in Worksheet 2. I have had no problem doing this before and the same workbook/document has multiple inter-sheet links from previous work I have done on it. All of a sudden this problem started happening today. Please help me figure this out. Very frustrating. Thank you. Brad.

I’d like to make a summary about this case, so other community members who come across this thread will easily find the useful information:

Issue description:

The formula/value will be in a random cell after linking cells between worksheets when you store the workbooks in Dropbox.

More information:

Original, we have identified the issue will disappear when we go to the Dropbox settings and set the Dropbox badge to "Never show"..

Now, the issue should have gone away. It seems that the issue has been fixed by Dropbox in their latest release. For more information, refer to:

    It works perfectly on my son's Windows laptop, and I've tried (nearly) everything.  At the risk of pointing out the obvious, this is a SERIOUS problem. This issue is costing me money!

    Hi Everyone,

    We have got the updates from the related team.

    To further look into this issue on your side, please provide the following information:

    1.On the Excel menu, click Preferences -> Under Formulas and Lists, click Calculation and then capture a screenshot of the calculation settings.

    2.Your regional and language settings.

    3.Does the reference work if you type it into a cell directly (instead of using semi-select)?

    4.Please provide the Mac OS version and Excel version if you don't provide them before

    Note: Please create a totally new Excel workbook using Excel 2016 when you di a test

    1. Yes. Reference works if formula is entered into a cell directly instead of using "=" or copying

       the formula from one File to another

    Issue description:

    Repro steps:

    a. In a workbook, select the Worksheet1

    b. Select a cell, such as C14 (destination/result cell)

    c. Enter "="

    d. Select Worksheet 2

    f. Select a Cell, such as G12 that has the info you want to appear on Worksheet1 cell C14 -> click Enter -> nothing happens in the cell on Worksheet 1. Yet the formula appears on a random cell in Worksheet 2.

    Environment:

    Mac OS 10.12.3/10.12.4.  Office version 15.32(170309), 15.33(170403).

    More information:

    We have reported this abnormal behavior to our related team and will let you know the updates once we receive the information from them.
