Some images in Publisher 2016 not displaying

Hello all,

Since yesterday, some images in my Publisher publications DO display correctly as they normally do, but some now do NOT display at all!?!  I can see their boundaries, but can't see the images themselves!?!  If I resize them to something bigger, they display correctly, but when I make them smaller/to their original size, they disappear!?!

I've searched around and tried a lot of things, but can't seem to find any good answer...

The images themselves are all embedded in the file and I repeat, displayed perfectly until I shut down my PC yesterday.  When I booted back up and reopened the same file, this problem came up.

If I reinsert images, they show up correctly!?!  I have thousands of images in those files, so cannot resort to reinserting them one by one!

Any idea?  Thanks in advance for your help!

P.S  I am running the most current version of Office 365 for business (Office 2016), version 1701 build 7766.2060... did an Office update happen when I booted back up yesterday causing this problem, I do not know because I can't seem to find any update history :-(

Hi Amy,

The new Office version 1702 (Build 7870.2020) was released to Current Channel on March 9, 2017. You may try it in Current Channel as the issue has been fixed in this version.

We are summarizing the symptom here:

Description

Some images become blank white shape in Publisher 2016.

Environment

Publisher 2016 (Current Channel, Version 1701, 7766.2060)

More information

We checked the issue can be fixed in the future Office update (Version 16.0.7766.2068, and 1702, 7870.2020). You can just wait for the update, or use the current workaround, or contact your IT admin to check if you can get the First Release build of Office.

Current Workaround

Revert to an earlier update using ODT: officec2rclient.exe /update user updatetoversion=16.0.7571.2109

    Hello Rena,

    Sorry for the delay, I was out of the office last Friday.

    1. The pictures mainly come from the Web, like Google Images and/or manufacturer provided images (parts catalog).  Some images are simply copied/pasted directly from the browser to the Publisher document as is, some are cropped after being pasted in the document.  I pretty much always do a "compress pictures/apply to all images in the document" after pasting a couple of images to reduce the document file size and to improve responsiveness
    2. I exported the document to PDF : all images show up perfectly.  I printed the document : all images show up perfectly.  I resized the images : most of them eventually show up when resized to a bigger size, but when you resize them back to their original size, they re-disappear.  I imported new images : they all showed up perfectly, no matter what their size / file format.  I tried compressing the files with Target Output set to Desktop Printing instead of Commercial Printing : some images re-appear, some not; same thing with the "Web" target output... pretty much hit and miss.
    3.  The problem shows up with pretty much all my files, which is a real pain since we are in a rush/deadline!!!!!  If I create a new file and copy/paste images from Google Images, all images I tried showed up correctly.  If I copy/paste an image not showing up in one document into the new file, the image do not show up.

    4 / 5.  Sent you a sample file a couple of minutes ago.

    As I can see, quite a lot of people are having this issue recently... problem with the last update?
