Outlook on android - receiving notifications, but emails don't show in inbox.

I use outlook for android (Motorola Moto G running Android 5.1) and it worked great until a couple of days ago. Now I get notifications of new emails, but the messages don't show up in my inbox. If I click a notification to try and read the email, it says 'Couldn't open message', and takes me back to my inbox, which shows only old messages.

Please help!

This has annoyed me for ages and I uninstalled Outlook back in March as I couldn't live with it - that and the dual notification tone every email...

Just reinstalled it to see if the app has improved and this bug was still there. However in the FAQ there is now a fix... by setting the battery optimisation in the settings of my Oneplus 6T to Don't Optimize it instantly resolved itself.

Probably a small hit in battery performance (no other email app requires this, Microsoft why do you have to be so f**kin awkward?) but at least we're there now. It's usable.

I just started having this issue as well.  I get a notification I got an email but then there's no email in Outlook for Android.  Cleared cache and it worked for a day then stopped again.  Uninstalled and reinstalled and worked for a couple days before stopping again.  Connecting to a work Office 365 account on Android 9.
