Outlook on android - receiving notifications, but emails don't show in inbox.

I use outlook for android (Motorola Moto G running Android 5.1) and it worked great until a couple of days ago. Now I get notifications of new emails, but the messages don't show up in my inbox. If I click a notification to try and read the email, it says 'Couldn't open message', and takes me back to my inbox, which shows only old messages.

Please help!

Please go to android settings>Apps & notification > Outlook > Permissions> -. Additional permissions > enable Email. Restart Andriod. Simple...Outlook start syncing...

I get

Cannot retrieve  notification content

Cant open any E mails.

My wife had exactly these symptoms on her Moto G. After lots of fiddling and trying most of the suggestions on these forums, it eventually turned out that the app was configured to only show emails with attachments. Just tapping the little icon in the top right-hand corner of the app (which was showing a paperclip to signify emails with attachments only) and changing it to show 'All messages' fixed things immediately. The resulting icon then appears in the top right-hand corner as an inverted pyramid of lines. Hope this helps.

I had exactly a similar issue with my S7 which is always in medium power saving mode.  Bizarrely the notifications for new emails in Outlook would appear on the lock screen, but when opening Outlook it could be up to a day behind and manual refresh would not up date it immediately. 

Finally it's fixed with the suggestions above regarding the Authenticator app, I realised that Outlook was set to not run in the background in medium power save.  Solution remove Outlook from the "Always sleeping apps" in Battery settings.

Same here. As I subscribed to this thread, I got the notification, clicked it, but can't see on my outlook app inbox.

Oneplus 5T, Oxygen OS 9.0.11, 

Outlook app version 4.1.59

I usually get it after 5-10min when I go back and check. But this is a work phone, goodness, can't see email as it comes? Not useful at all!
