I use outlook for android (Motorola Moto G running Android 5.1) and it worked great until a couple of days ago. Now I get notifications of new emails, but the messages don't show up in my inbox. If I click a notification to try and read the email, it says 'Couldn't open message', and takes me back to my inbox, which shows only old messages.
Please help!

Yes exact same issue for me. I have done a similar work around but it is garbage. I even tried Bluemail which was good for one sync. Notifications come to my watch and device but the email are not present in the app. My hotmail account syncs fine but my office 365 account does not.
I have the same issue. It started when I synced 2 Microsoft 365 outlook emails tot the outlook app. I get notifications but the email does not appear when I open the app.
I have uninstalled, cleared cache, synced only one account and still get the Same issue. If I restart the phone it syncs once and the not again.
Work around is using webmail and installing 2 web browsers so I can log on each email account.
How can I fix this?
Here is what finally worked for me:
I am using Office 365 Home. I noticed that some wireless routers worked fine, but when at home I would get an error and time out when logging in to Outlook on both my android devices. If I logged in using a router that worked, then when I came home, all I would get was the notification for the email, but it did not show up in Outlook.
I have a linksys router, logged in and went to:
Connectivity>Internet Settings>IPv6>Edit>Uncheck IPv6 - Automatic Enabled [box]
ie: It now is NOT enabled. Save the new settings. Let the router reboot if it wants.
BOOM! SOLVED (at least for me)!!!
I don't even know what Microsoft Authenticator is. It is not in my list of apps. How do I get to it, to change its settings?
It is definitely the case! I had the same issue on my Samsung Galaxy S10+ and when I switched off baterry optimization in Microsoft Authenticator which I use for 2FA and all works.
