Outlook on android - receiving notifications, but emails don't show in inbox.

I use outlook for android (Motorola Moto G running Android 5.1) and it worked great until a couple of days ago. Now I get notifications of new emails, but the messages don't show up in my inbox. If I click a notification to try and read the email, it says 'Couldn't open message', and takes me back to my inbox, which shows only old messages.

Please help!

OK. I just turned on "focused inbox" and "Organize email by thread" and all my messages re-appeared. I do not like these two options but now I see my email...

    Cheers

It is disappointing that the problem is still existant, 4 years since it was reported. The solutions which were being suggested in this thread were downright patronising.

This worked.  I didnt uninstall the Microsoft authenticator app, just disabled the battery optimization within the authenticator app itself then my outlook emails all flooded in.

New Android S8 and S7 Edge both have this problem when set to work through WiFi. Once these phones are away from the WiFi and are using usual cell service all is well.  I believe the phones are working on other WiFi networks, such as at my home, but not at work.  The work internet access is through Hughes net satellite service.  Any idea on how to correct this problem?  Outlook has been removed and reloaded multiple times with the same results.

    Office 365 business subscription.

    Android version 6.0.1.

I'm using the official outlook app for android, most recently updated from the app store as at 0700GMT 27 june.

I tried performing a reset using the application on my account (the button reset under the account's details in the settings part of the app).  No email came through.  This also lost the calendar and everything else,  which wouldn't sync properly.   The reset had the helpful tip "try resetting your account to deal with sync issues".

I then flushed the application's data and logged back into my account, which instantly downloaded and showed me all my email.

This happens regularly to my app, on the order of once every 2 to 3 weeks.
