WHAT IS THE ANSWER OR SECRET IN YOUR COMMENT

SO MANY  ON THIS THREAD AND I HAVE TRIED THEM WITH NO AVAIL.  YOU DIDN'T GIVE WHICH ONE WORKED FOR YOU

This thread seems to be getting longer and longer and to be honest I'm losing track of where we are.

So, for me here is what works when I want to clear/delete word documents in android and word attachments that have been sent to me in Android.

First go to the apps settings where all the apps on your device are listed.  Scroll down to the Word app and click it to open it up to app info screen.  Click Storage.  Click Clear Data.  Done.  This will remove all data, files etc. from the Word app but not anything else.  It won't remove the operating files needed to run Word but next time you use Word it will start up as new, like you haven't used it before.

That's it.  I know this is less desirable than going into Word and deleting individual files but apparently Microsoft doesn't want you to do that for some unfathomable reason.

    Cheers

No, clearing data should not affect any other files on your device. I mean the files that are either directly stored in some location like Documents or Downloads. It only deletes this specific application's "invisible" folder.

Why have SO many people asked this same question without ANY answer from Microsoft????

    This is an issue.

Only answer is to uninstall the app, lose all the documents within WORD and reinstall?

I cannot afford to lose all of my documents for what I believe would be a simple fix for on of the intelligent minds that work at Microsoft. You guys have provided EXCELLENT products for years and you can't figure this one out?

WOW!!!! All I can say is WOW

Used your products for years and would say they are the best, which is a compliment to your entire team but REALLY
