Stop the "don't lose access to your account" nonsense.

I'm prevented from logging in by a "set it up now" button on the generic log in page (using IE10). Like any security conscious enterprise, my company manages my passwords and isn't interested in this "nanny state" option. How do I bypass it?

    hi mchv2.0,

my understanding is that you keep seeing this prompt when log in to http://portal.office.com , if there is anything misunderstood, please correct me.

to narrow down the issue, please help to confirm the following information:

    1. are the users accounts in your tenant synced from on premise active directory or created from office 365 admin center > active users?

if it is the former scenario, please add the mobile phone number at the local ad and then sync to office 365. you can refer to jason’s reply

    here.

    1. does the prompt only pop up to admin account(s) or all user accounts?

if the prompt only shows up to admins, please ask them to change the alternate email address to a new one under office 365 settings > personal info and check the outcome.

    3. have the affected users finished configuring the mobile number and phone number under office 365 settings > personal info ?

    1. if it is not the above symptom, please capture a screenshot of it. to upload a screenshot, you can click use rich formatting under the reply box in the forum and then click the icon of insert/edit media > browse > insert.

    regards,

    james

We use AD and aren't interested in Msft's pw recovery options. No one is going to add a phone number or email address. PW recovery is handled internally by us and any enterprise using O365. Blocking access because of this is ridiculous. This isn't what apps billed as "enterprise" quality do.

    Thanks.

    Hi Mchv2.0,

I understand this prompt is annoying if it pops up every time. To look into the issue better, please provide the information I requested above since this is important to us.

Besides, please confirm the following points:

    1. Does the prompt still pop up after you type the mobile number and email address?
    2. Have you enabled self password reset in your tenant?
    3. Please provide the screenshots of "set it up now" and "don't lose access to your account" page.

    Thanks for your cooperation.

    James

I don't think you're understanding this - my company manages passwords and we don't want Msft involved. Please just tell me how to deactivate the alerts.

    Hi Mchv2.0,

If you’d like to avoid the alerts, you can enter the mobile number at the local Active Directory and sync to Office 365 as mentioned in previous post. If you don’t want to set mobile phone number for privacy/safety concerns, you can set any number instead to stop the alerts.

    Regards,

    Ryan
