where are the auto saved files for office 2016 for mac?

I had autorecoveron (by default) and the app crashed (ironically when i tried to do a normal save). is there a chance i can get my file back and if so where?

this was a powerpoint presentation.

thanks for your reply.

I actually found my file - for reference it was at 

HD > Users > [my user name] > Library > Containers > com.microsoft.Powerpoint > Data > Library > Preferences > AutoRecovery > Presentation1_autorecover

but powerpoint wouldn't detect it upon restart, it wouldn't show up in spotlight etc. (I found it with a program called "find my file")

I had to rename the autosave file with a '.pptm' extension before PowerPoint would open it.

It appears the autosave has a content type of "application/vnd.ms-powerpoint.presentation.macroEnabled.main+xml" instead of "application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.presentationml.presentation.main+xml" which is typical for a pptx file.

I guess there's confusion over what type of file you were working on. If it was a Word document then everything in the path is the same except replace the word "PowerPoint" for "Word" and see if anything is in that folder.

    I just lost a research paper the same way.  I have no folder that is visible called either "containers" or from previous posts, "Group containers" moreover my "Library" file is not at the user level.  There is no library file under the [username] architecture, it only exists under the HD folder.  Not sure why there are so many different system architectures, or more importantly why MS Word didn't just autosave to the path where the file is saved?  My autosave is set for 1 minute, and I am not even sure why in 2016 we are having this discussion.  A document should save continuously while you are working on it.  Like Gmail, or most online products.  And it should update the path where it is saved.  Just lost 4 hours of work, paper is due tomorrow at 8 AM.  Back to work...

    Similar issues happened on MacOSX  with Word 2016, Word 2011 however could open the file well and safe it again.
