Today I’m pleased to announce the release of Microsoft Office 2016 for Mac.

Microsoft Office 2016 for Mac enables you do your best work – anywhere, anytime and with anyone. New, modern versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and OneNote have the familiar look and feel of Office, and are thoughtfully designed for Mac. You’ll quickly produce quality documents using new online templates, the Insights pane, and recommended charts. You’ll have access to your docs in the cloud whenever you need them. No more sending documents back and forth in email: it’s easy to share your work and have others review it, since several people can edit the same document simultaneously.

What are the system requirements?

Your Mac device needs to be on OS X 10.10 Yosemite or above.

How do I get Microsoft Office 2016 for Mac?

Office 365 subscribers can get Office 2016 for Mac fromOffice.com/myaccount.  If you don’t have an Office 365 subscription you can purchase from Office.com.

How should I update the Preview build to the Release build?

The update will be available shortly.  You can install the update by going to Help > Check for Updates. Otherwise, the Microsoft Auto-Update Tool will inform you sometime today or tomorrow that an update is available.

    Thanks for the heads up!

    What is the installation procedure for those of us who have installed the preview version of Office 2016? Remove the preview and use the link you provided or wait for an update in the help menu of Office?

    Also can you provide a direct link to Office 2016 in the App Store?

    Hi Nicholas,

    This is exciting news. How will shared computer activations work with Office for Mac 2016/Office 365 ProPlus subscriptions? I am familiar with activating Office installations on shared lab PCs, but so far I cannot find any documentation regarding how the Mac side of things will work.

    Hi Pierre, no need to uninstall the preview version, you can install the GA bits over them. You can also check for updates and it will install the new version.

    Unfortunately Office 2016 is not in the Apple Mac App Store yet. The only way to get this is via Auto Update or the Office.com portal.

    Hello JMyers!

    Office 365 ProPlus (https://products.office.com/en-us/business/office-365-proplus-business-software) allows you to install Office on 5 PCs or Macs, so as long as you install and activate on 5 or less machines, you should be good to go.

    Is anyone else experiencing "Privacy" issues (a certificate error I believe) trying to download from the officecdn.microsoft.com URL (https://officecdn.microsoft.com/pr/C1297A47-86C4-4C1F-97FA-950631F94777/OfficeMac/Microsoft\_Office\_2016\_Installer.pkg) ?

    When I navigate there from through the My Account | Office 2016 for Mac Install button I get the following

    Your connection is not private

    Attackers might be trying to steal your information from officecdn.microsoft.com (for example, passwords, messages or credit cards). NET::ERR_CERT_COMMON_NAME_INVALID

    The server could not prove that it is officecdn.microsoft.com; its security certificate is from a248.e.akamai.net.
