Office 2016 keeps reverting color theme back to Colorful

I installed Office 2016 as an upgrade to 2013.  Put the color scheme on grey (because annoyingly the awesome Black went away sometime in the preview.)  

Now I have a weird issue where every time I close all of the 2016 applications and then reopen one of the applications, the theme has changed from grey to colorful.  This applies to reboots or just closing them all and then later opening one back up.  Oddly as well today (10/5/2015) I walked away from the computer to talk to a co-worker in the next office.  When I came back, it was on colorful again.  However that is the only time it has changed itself while open.

It seems to work correctly when it is set to Grey.  So for instance, say I open Outlook and change the theme to Grey.  When I open Word or Excel, they are also Grey as they should be.

So I'm just throwing that out there as a potential bug

    I don't know about anyone else, but the "colorful" theme causes me a lot of eye strain. Perhaps a round of class action law suits for causing eye strain would get MS off their collective butts and get them to fix this.

    This is a ridiculous situation!  The first post in this thread is 2015 and MS still haven't got this BUG fixed.  Ripe situation for a third party color theme management utility but why should Office users have to pay for relief from such an obvious coding problem?

    Try the following IF it's an option on your version of Office.

    File > Options > General > Personalize your copy of Microsoft Office.

    Select "Always use these values regardless of sign in to Office" and also configure the settings you want.

    My Office Theme keeps reverting to Colorful as well.  Starting to get frustrating as it's a little difficult to tell some of my icons apart from others.  I tried the "Always use these values..." fix and have had no luck.  Please help Microsoft!!!

    I have the same issue on Windows 10 Pro. Extremely annoying as I like the blacked out theme and it reverts to the whitest theme. 

    Please try to find a fix as this has been over a year without a solution for your users.
