Office 2016 keeps reverting color theme back to Colorful

I installed Office 2016 as an upgrade to 2013.  Put the color scheme on grey (because annoyingly the awesome Black went away sometime in the preview.)

Now I have a weird issue where every time I close all of the 2016 applications and then reopen one of the applications, the theme has changed from grey to colorful.  This applies to reboots or just closing them all and then later opening one back up.  Oddly as well today (10/5/2015) I walked away from the computer to talk to a co-worker in the next office.  When I came back, it was on colorful again.  However that is the only time it has changed itself while open.

It seems to work correctly when it is set to Grey.  So for instance, say I open Outlook and change the theme to Grey.  When I open Word or Excel, they are also Grey as they should be.

So I'm just throwing that out there as a potential bug

I was having the issue and I found that when I opened up Outlook and clicked on File ---> Office Account (using Windows 10, Office 365 account), I noticed that it said there was a problem with my Office account on my PC and it had a "Fix It" button. Once I clicked that and logged in with my company credentials, my Office account was fixed and once I set my colors back to black, it has held my colors ever since. Now when I open up Outlook or Word, I no longer have to go back into the Options and change my colors. I know that changing the colors every time you log in is a pain in the you know what so try this and see if that fixes your issue.

    Hello!

Thanks for posting on the Microsoft Community, and we're sorry that you're experiencing this issue. We have identified the source of this problem and our engineering team is working on a fix. I'll post back once the update containing the fix is released.

    Thanks,

Well, its been over 2 years now (3/4/16, your post to 4/25/18 now) and the problem still hasn't been resolved.  I installed 2016 about 3 weeks ago and use the "Dark Gray" theme.  I turn-off my computer at night and every morning the theme resets to "Colorful."

Also, I agree with another post that the icons on the Dark Gray and Black themes should be normal colored; not white.  It may look cool, which is debatable, but not very functional.  I struggle to identify the icons in white.  Please change them back or at least make an option to have them normal or white.

Finally, in the "Black" theme, this would be my favorite choice except I can't use it because of the poor color scheme of the reminders in Outlook.  They are light gray on white which is very difficult if not impossible to read.  A reminder is supposed to poop; this color combo is a dud.

Well, its been more than two years since your post (3/4/16 to 4/25/18 now) and the problem still hasn't been resolved.  I've been using 2016 for about 3 weeks now and every morning my theme resets from the "Dark Gray" I selected to "Colorful."

I also agree strongly with another post that it was a poor choice to change all the icons to white in the "Dark Gray" and "Black" themes.  Please make the icon colors consistent throughout the themes, or make an option to select  white or normal colors.

One other problem as long as we are on the subject.  In the "Black" theme, reminders come up with a light gray on white which is a strain on the eyes to read.  I love the black theme the best but can't use it due to this poor color combination.  Please fix.  Thanks.

It stopped doing it for me when I realized I was not logged in to the Office 365 system.  In the upper right corner of Excel, you will see your name.  Mine had a trouble triangle next to it.  It was because I had changed my password, and our Office 365 is integrated with our Active Directory so every time I change the password at work, it broke the Office applications login.  Check next to your name to see if you have this issue with Office 365.  I hope this helps.

Thank you! This pointed me in the right direction.  On the Office Account page there was an error occurring so that my settings were not being saved.  The error message was right at the top.  I had to log into office 365 for the setting to be saved.  BTW, I was able to set the same setting in the Office page of Excel as well.
