Office 2016 keeps reverting color theme back to Colorful

I installed Office 2016 as an upgrade to 2013.  Put the color scheme on grey (because annoyingly the awesome Black went away sometime in the preview.)

Now I have a weird issue where every time I close all of the 2016 applications and then reopen one of the applications, the theme has changed from grey to colorful.  This applies to reboots or just closing them all and then later opening one back up.  Oddly as well today (10/5/2015) I walked away from the computer to talk to a co-worker in the next office.  When I came back, it was on colorful again.  However that is the only time it has changed itself while open.

It seems to work correctly when it is set to Grey.  So for instance, say I open Outlook and change the theme to Grey.  When I open Word or Excel, they are also Grey as they should be.

So I'm just throwing that out there as a potential bug

    No, it does not work.

Perhaps this info would help to shed some light:  I installed Office 2016 Pro Plus both on my Windows 7 desktop and on my Windows 10 laptop.  Office on my desktop has no colors.  Yet the installation on the laptop (Windows 10) is OK, with colors and all.

I also continue to have this issue even though I check

"Always use these values regardless of sign in to Office."

Part of the value of 365 is supposed to be that issues are fixed and updated quickly.  This has been going on a long time now.

In Office 365 (2016) the problem seems to be resolved by following some advice given by someone else in this thread, that I lost track of, which is:

in Options - General - Personalize your copy of Microsoft Office

check the box for "Always use these values regardless of sign in to Office

So far this has worked and maintains the Dark Gray theme which I prefer across the Office applications suite.

I have the same issue on Windows 10 Pro. Extremely annoying as I like the blacked out theme and it reverts to the whitest theme.

Please try to find a fix as this has been over a year without a solution for your users.

This is a ridiculous situation!  The first post in this thread is 2015 and MS still haven't got this BUG fixed.  Ripe situation for a third party color theme management utility but why should Office users have to pay for relief from such an obvious coding problem?
