We are aware of this problem and will release a fix in an upcoming update. Here are 2 workarounds that have been successful for other Community members.

In Win 10, Right-click on the Start button and choose Run

  1. type %userprofile% into the Run box and click OK to open your local profile folder
  2. Double-click the OneDrive folder
  3. When you get prompted to allow access, click to allow access. OR
  4. In Win 10, Right-click on the Start button and choose Command Prompt (Admin)
  5. Click Yes to the User Account Control prompt
  6. In the command prompt, type the following command:

cd %userprofile%

press Enter on your keyboard 4. In the command prompt, type the following command:

cd OneDrive

press Enter on your keyboard 5. In the command prompt, type the following command:

icacls %userprofile%\OneDrive /inheritance:e

(where %userprofile%\OneDrive is the location of the folder you want to fix)

press Enter on your keyboard

If these methods do not work, OneDrive files can still be accessed from different locations, including phone, tablet and online. Any single file from the OneDrive folder can be copied and pasted onto the desktop

and opened from there.

My issue is with Microsoft Excel, not one Drive.  I lose saved changes when leaving a workbook open for a prolonged period of time.  After leaving it open, when I attempt to reopen the workbook, all I see is a ghosted worksheet, no gridlines or functions, it is white.  I close it and try to  reopen the same workbook and all of my saved changes are gone.  Try as I might, I can't retrieve the workbook with my changes intact.  This didn't happen with previous versions of windows

My computer does not allow me to save documents -  excel and word documents- except to my desktop - not to my documents folders. I am unable to save updated documents without having to rename them.   Does the above solution fix this?  i note that the "patch' was supposed to come out sometime in the past 6 weeks!

As far as I am concerned I will use Libre Office I got off the wikipedia page. It downloaded free and didn't have any spam yet. It's a fancy version of word. It already had a crash of 4 open pages...but it reccovered them all complete and not corrupted.

When microsoft can quarantee their products  won't crash and burn on paying customers I will consider using Word again. For now,,,the program has too many issues you can find a bazillion users complaining on line. I went to wikipedia and typed in Libre Office on their engine. When that page opened I scrolled down to the bottom and found the download. The download didn't take forever (I wonder if those long downloads are because they put other devices on we don't know  about?)  Libre Office works for me. If microsoft wants my business they should make a Word program that works. I talked to some of their techs...they don't have an answer yet.

    Good day

    Brian

Go to the wikipedia page and type in Libre office. When that page appears scroll down and download. It is a word type program...some icons are different. When you figure it out...One crash recovered all documents. I can save to my documents and external storage devices.

    Good day

It's not just Microsoft Word, its my external folders when the external drive is plugged in and working.  It's excel spreadsheets, outlook and browsers.  Just now it took 3 minutes to open a folder, but now its open.
