Can’t open or save files after upgrading to Windows 10

I just bought  a new Lenovo labtop and it works great. I don't understand why microsoft makes us pay for the use of Word? I was prompted to upgrade to Office 2016 and have found that in windows 10 my word program keeps working. 

I found only how to initiate off line storage with One Drive. However...when I click the save icon on a new document I created in Word I click  file...save as...on this computer...documents. Then...word crashes accross the board on all open files I am working with on a project.

Microsoft  wants me to save all my files on One drive instead of my computer...I have 500GB of storage, a flash drive stick, DVD disk back-ups...

What does microsoft think I need One Drive for? To profile me? It is common knowledge that online services are profiling everyone as we are told. Leaving my documents in someone elses storage system? I don't consider my work-sheets anybody elses business. I am not so trusting of online storage places. Maybe that would be OK for mundane items but not for your secret projects in developement.

This crash occurs almost every day. Sometimes it doesn't.  Does microsoft consider its users time as valuable?  I say this because no matter what the solution is to get back to work,...often we must spend hours tearing out our hair and not getting a project completed in a timely matter.

Why does microsoft release programs like office that crash and charge us for using them? All the computers I bought in the past had Word installed for free. Those versions worked wiithout incident. On this new laptop I only found wordpad installed. As you all know, wordpad crashes often...it is not designed to handle major projects.

According to microsoft we are supposed to recieve a fix for office...they know that they sold us a bogus working program..when the fix will arrive nobody knows...typical of online services these days. When find an older version of Word I wil install it so work wil not be interrupted. I am paying monthly for Office 2016. I did this because microsoft said I would be updated when they are available. The problem with updates is that often they also fix what isn't broken.. Not all programers are competent...so when an update arrives you don't know if it is a rush job that delivers more system bugs. What was working becomes fidgety.

I have a website at directfromwestfourthblvd.com and sell a wide variety of merchandise...however I depend on word to prepare and edit  ad copy  before I put it up online. I hope the site will launch soon but in the meantime I am going to search for a version of word online that won't keep crashing on me. Without a fix for the Word 2016  this may be the only alternative except to save work on One Drive.

We are all experiencing problems with word...especially if you depend on it to get work done. Right now I am dragging along frustrated that I am not getting the work done to mke my site more productive. Not having my new website fine tuned is loss of revenue. Yikes!!!!!

You are right on the money...that you give to microsoft for programs that don't work. I have a fairly inexpensive lap-top that works like a charm (not ugly windows 8 charms). They are indeed pushing the use of One Drive for online storage.

Most users today have a bazillion gigabytes or terabytes already at their finger tips. We can use external flash drives, disks (I use DVD 4.GB), external hard drives, aside from the massive storage installed on modern computers.

That technology is personal and affordable. It is not lending our work projects to a mass public storage place. Google, Microsoft,  One Drive, Cloud, email programs and many others are trying to get online users to store their personal works on their devices.

I wonder if homeland security is initiating these data storage places to have users submit their detailed data? Maybe that is so they don't have to enter every PC for information. Are these online storage places used to profile users for marketing campaigns? My opinion is yes. Who else would be so innterested in offering users free storage space? That would be like letting everybody fill your house, basement and garage up with their junk as long as they want.

With mass storage devices, as mentioned, available for the home PC who needs One Drive? Microsoft has developed Office to crash when attempting to save files to computer. There is an alterior motive behind this and the redirect to the online storage at One Drive. That motive is not spelled out to us "consumer targets". Somebody wants to have access to our documents in detail?

This is a great place for all of us to scream at microsoft. With trillions of dollars in their pockets do they even care about a retired bum like me and my computer problems they generated?

My website directfromwestfourthblvd.com is still under construction. I depend on my Office 365 programs to work wiithout a hitch to get my merchandise descriptions edited and catalogs to keep track of the store inventory. When Word crashes accross all open files relevent to the project I feel a bit resentful to the developers who made such unreliable software.

Sometimes I wonder if security software fidgets with the ability to access research sites, and common software. I have had my security software interrupt me even when dealing with microsoft. Because of the mass paranoia from homeland security, internet security software is often suspicious of the most innocent websites. I switched back to McAffe because the Kaspersky security provided with my laptop was interrupting my daily work scedule every few minutes about potential dangers. Really? Super suspicious security software is more of a nuisance to ccommon users. If you have zillions of dollars to steal maybe you need that. I'm just another bum scratching for existence in the cyber world. If anybody wants to hack me they will walk away penniless and waste their time. I found using the McAfee program still gives me alerts but doesn't interrupt me all day unless it is an impportant known issue. Lots of major businesses use McAfee. When I was using Kaspersky and Norton and other software I've tried, sometimes they offered to cleanup system files and ripped out important cookies and other functions that made things work...

One problem with the computer industry and their software is that they feel the need to provide users with "new and improved" fangled gadgets. Windows 8...Windows 10...Office...Word...Security, spy, malware programs and so on are examples of programs that work less than previous versions, or so good that you need to go back to school to learn how. Their stockholders demand new products to stimulate sales and profits.

The developers and programers make ridiculous changes that confuse the user, the look and feel of the program..making their new version unrecognizable to previous versions. The user then has to stand in line with a million other angry people to seek support that the technician doesn't have answers to.

The whole objective of major computer monopolies like microsoft is to develope and market their "new innovations" to potential buyers. If you buy a  computer microsoft should improve the software  until the motherboard dies and you have to send the whole shootin'match to the recycler.

Older versions of windows should have been left alone and updated to fix the bugs to improve functionality.  Instead new versions of windows make your present software obsolete. Microsoft hasn't even fixed the previous versions for their users who purchased them. Their updates are frequent. That is because the version you bought were not totally functional when sold to you. Microsoft releases new windows versions soon after you purchase your new computer. It appears that the software you have is outdated and needs to be replaced. This way microsoft can force feed the newer software versions for users to purchase.

That is marketing. By releasing software  that has problems...microsoft can offer fixes called new window versions. This costs the user infinately as new bells and whistles are marketed.

Thats the way I feel about the whole stinking mess with technology using cosmetic facelifts to the previous versions. The new versions always have problems. Kind of like buying a beat up car that is always breaking down from a shady dealership...the automotive industry recall after thousands of users have crashed their vehicle with bad brakes.

Even after following both sets of steps outlined above including step 6 in a later post about "Put a check on theAllowthen apply and save." my Outlook, Word, and Excel all close a second after opening.  Worked fine before I upgraded from Win 7.  I avoided any kind of cloud storage up to this point and so far not impressed.  I get the same condition if opening from quick launch, all apps from windows button, or just trying to double click on a local file from my desktop.   

Update: After reboot this morning, and a number of updates were pushed down by Microsoft, my Office programs work correctly now but there is a catch. 

What is odd is that I am unable to attach items from One Drive to Outlook unless the items are saved into the local mirror copy of One Drive.  In other words, if I go to a pc that doesn't have the local copy of One Drive (for me that would be at C:\Users"myAccountName...."\OneDrive ) I can't get to my files.  The "One Drive" that Outlook, Access, and Excel pulls its files from it right on my PC's hard drive.  It does not reach into the cloud to get the files.  

When a One Drive account is first set up, the user has the option to "mirror" their cloud files to a local folder.  If you choose not to, then  the only way to get to the files would be to sign into one drive via browser, then drag the files to a local spot (say the desktop) then open/attach from there.  

Never ending computer problems. Thats a fine challenge to people who like to fool around and have nothing better to do than fix things that don't work.

The reason is simple: Microsoft releases it's products with problems so they can access your computer with updates. In other words, planned obsolesence. Microsoft will eventually provide a patch I believe they already have. A "sort of" fix. Then they will market a new mproved version for users to purchase. It is called marketing.

Remember microsoft is a huge corporation and obligated to it's stockholders to make them profits. The only way to do that is to issue products and software that have an element of faiilure. After a year or so...you watch...microsoft will offer a new windows version you can buy. So you buy it. Surprise! It takes you until microsft issues a new version after that to understand the present version you have.

EXAMPLE: Thomas Alva Edison made a light bulb, some that still burn 24/7 to this day (I seen one in the 80's). The problem was this: Light bulb companies would have gone out of  business if everybody owned one that never burned out. The only reason to buy a new one would be if it were accidentally broken.

That whole concept of the light bulb applies to all consumer products including this technology. The only way for a company to remain profitable is to make products that wear out so they cant be fixed. They don't have parts. They have no user servicable parts. They no longer offer technical support for your version. In the end you have to buy the new model or find an old one that sort of woorks.

Some time ago I had an HP monitor. One day one pin on the monitors plug was bent and broke off when I tried to straighten it. HP did not support the product anymore and it was way out of warranty.  The port plug was designed so that the cord was hard wired into the monitor. There was no option to just plug in a new port cable. I bought a compatible plug and attempted to hook up 17 or so different wires in the cord...I had a technician also try. A perfectly good monitor was lost and I had to buy a new one. Thats life? Look how often cell/smart phones keep changing.

Companies today, not just microsoft are providing us with a bunch of junk that breaks. I really makes me angry when I try to work online from todays software. There is always some technical issue that retards the ability to be productive and focused on an ongoing project like my new web site directfromwestfourthblvd.com and I have a bundle of work to do. I depend on software like Office, Word and so on to work..unfortunately we all have to enter these forums to work out problems that microsoft has no answers for on their disfunctional products. So I end up having to toot my horn and "that doesnt fix what was originally sold as broken."

The following is a link that fixed my Microsoft Office problem. I had to update my Display link Core software (whatever that is!) But it worked. I can now use Microsoft Office.

Ive tried your link provide and am now going to reboot (restart and see if it makes a difference. Hope my Word Files that are new are not lost as usually is the case when the program won't save them and crashes. Hours of wasted time. I know microsoft wants to look at my files on their One Drive.Trust me...there is more to the story behind these online data storage places than any of us can imagine. Big Brother is watching "The book 1984 by George Orwell."

None of my information was saved to the cloud.  Why should I have to save to the cloud when I just want it on my present computer????

I figured as such and this is why I do not use online storage. There are plenty of options to save data at home or office like external drives, flash and disc... Cloud didn't crash...somebody took your files. Consider that Word was once a program we all got when we bought a computer. Now it is an online web service we have to pay for on top of our ISP fees.

Though we have external storage devices for back-up, every keystroke we make on the Word web service is likely recorded. The program crashes because millions of users are online at once to the web version instead of a private PC version. When you advertise with SEO spider crawlers on the web take notice of keywords to redirect customers in your direction.

Don't be fooled by online storage. No one is offering there service because they like  you or think you are a great person who have earned the priveledge. They are interested in your data and not to do you a big favor of holding it for you.

Perhaps this was a protocol from paranoic homeland security to gather as many online user files as possible by making online storage look attractive to people who are to lazy to back up their files.

Online storage of your files considers every word submitted as a keyword. All keywords in your files are scanned by software crawlers. Part of the Netflix service, for example, is to target interests you have and offer you programs that fit your profile. Every time you  rate a movie you provide a profile of your taste. That is how all sevices keep you as a customer.

When certain words are flagged by homeland security, all of your files will be carefully examined to see if you are an individual with potential terroristic threat to society. When I go to the post office to mail a package...agents make me empty my pockets into a bin and walk through the scanner. Online storage is a version of that with all your data files you willingly submit. It is an invasion of Americas right to personal privacy.

Keep all your files on your own back-up systems. That does not solve the problem. Microsoft is designing Word to crash when saving files to your PC in order to make online personal data storage your only option. The wave of the future is to monitor 'all citizens' (already happening.) That issue has been in the News frequently. Its like leaving a diary of personal and private business projects on a snoops table. When you are gone...they sneak a peek.

I don't see any other reason for Word to crash when saving to PC documents. If you're not mad you should be. Consider Hillary Clinton and the examination of her emai l. That is just an exammple of how 'they' want  to  know your business.

If microsoft says I am wrong and paranoid...they should design their products to work and not cause such suspician...to give cause to conspiracy theories..and at least not be so obvious about their participation in public spying. I wouldn't be here wasting my work day and coming up with accusations if the software they sold me worked correctly.

Homeland security is more than welcome to look at ALL of my files, but I would still like to be able to save them to my own computer....go look there !!!   The $$$ I paid for my program to NOT work should be reimbursed...
