Can’t open or save files after upgrading to Windows 10

So...before I knew there were any problems with Windows 10/Microsoft Office compatibility ...I updated to Windows 10 on my secondary almost brand new computer (did this last week). The computer was on Windows 8.1 (a nightmare operating system) and is primarily used for web browsing so had nothing much on it thankfully. After the install, I found that ALL my Microsoft Office programs had disappeared. Vanished. The icons were on the desktop, but they were blank. I could not find the programs on my hard drive anymore (despite having Office 365 previously installed).

I then found lots of forums like this one where others have been having precisely this same issue for many months now (and other worse issues as well, such as not being able to open or save their existing documents).

Having spent the whole weekend trying all the suggested fixes, and with nothing working, I reinstalled Office 365 and now I have the icons and their associated programs back. 

I am totally shocked that such a big corporation as Microsoft could launch Windows 10 and encourage mass transition by millions of users when something like this seems to commonly happen to those who install Windows 10.

What I don't get is why it only happens with SOME downloads/SOME computers, but not with EVERY computer. If it happened with everyone, there would be massive media interest and even more complaints of course. The fact that it is happening to many thousands of people is not as significant as if it happened to hundreds of thousands.

The whole process has been disturbing and I am buying a MAC as I can't stand the glitches with Windows anymore. I also read that their in-built anti-virus software Windows Defender rated 0.5 out of 6 recently for picking up viruses and malware.

I tried this too and it didn't work. Had I downloaded Windows10 on my MAIN computer, which has over 60,000 files on it, I shudder to think of the damage that would have been done. Imagine not being able to access all my business records and personal data and trying to copy them into OneDrive when each OneDrive file takes at least 60seconds to access. OMG. This is just appalling, Microsoft. Why it isn't in the general news is a mystery.

You have to reinstall everything, including Office.  I believe Microsoft has used Windows 10 to wipe out any stolen or pirated apps on computers requiring you to reinstall everything.  The catch is you cannot find a cd to install the app, you have to go thru the Microsoft store to get it. 

There are other stupid things they have done to better the features and get you to put everything in the "cloud".  Doing this has caused a ton of bugs.  I have MSN Premium I pay $10 a month for.  When I'm logged into MSN and I hit the mail icon, Microsoft edge pops up with Hotmail.  WTH.  I dont want the free Hotmail because all my stuff is saved in MSN.  Windows 10 changed my desktop settings so my desktop log in was the same as my MSN log in.  WTH.  Am I suppose to give out my MSN log in info to my wife and kids so they can log in to the desktop.  OH I am suppose to create a MSN account for my wife and kids so they can log into the desktop.  You people are a bunch of idiots!!!!  My wife and kids dont use MSN and dont care to use it so dont force me to create an account for them to use the family desktop.

MSN explorer flash player doesn't work. 

I cant log in to a few of my bank accounts thru MSN Premium.  I have to use Microsoft Edge.

The scroll wheel on my mouse stutters when I scroll up or down with MSN Premium.

The list of bugs goes on and there isnt enough space in this post to write them all.  I can go back to Windows 7 professional but Microsoft is going to stop supporting it.  I would also have to reload all my work and nothing is gauranteed to work since I have updated all my files to run on Windows 10.  I hope some starts a lawsuit because I will be in for sure.

The other thing they dont tell you is I think the number and level of bugs each computer gets is dependent upon which operating system you are upgrading from.  My desktop was upgraded from Windows 7 professional running on a brand new HP Envy Phoenix desktop while my laptop was upgraded from Windows 7 home on a Toshiba laptop that is 3-4 years old.  Each one has its own separate problems after upgrading.

For example I can pay bills thru my MSN Premium account on the laptop but I can't on the desktop.  I get errors on the desktop.  When I view an online video on my laptop I get "out of memory" errors and MSN freezes but when I view the same exact video on my desktop it runs for awhile then MSN just closes aka crashes.

If a fix doesn't come out soon, I am sending in an FCC complaint once a week.  The FCC regulates the internet and this is an internet issue caused by Windows 10.  My HP Envy desktop cost $1600 for just a tower.  It was top of the line and now its junk.

Gosh - I am so so very sorry to hear how you have suffered. This is just awful. Like so many other HUNDREDS of blog posts I have read, this continues to confirm that the rollout of Windows10 was seriously premature. The flaws have caused catastrophic failures of people's systems - and continue to cause catastrophic failures. The "fixes" if and they come, will come too late for so many.

Peeps ... do NOT upgrade your old system to Windows10. Cheaper, and less stressful, and less potential for file/program damage in the long run, to buy a MAC or a pre-installed Windows10 computer. Read the blogs!!!
