We are aware of this problem and will release a fix in an upcoming update. Here are 2 workarounds that have been successful for other Community members.

In Win 10, Right-click on the Start button and choose Run

  1. type %userprofile% into the Run box and click OK to open your local profile folder
  2. Double-click the OneDrive folder
  3. When you get prompted to allow access, click to allow access. OR
  4. In Win 10, Right-click on the Start button and choose Command Prompt (Admin)
  5. Click Yes to the User Account Control prompt
  6. In the command prompt, type the following command:

cd %userprofile%

press Enter on your keyboard 4. In the command prompt, type the following command:

cd OneDrive

press Enter on your keyboard 5. In the command prompt, type the following command:

icacls %userprofile%\OneDrive /inheritance:e

(where %userprofile%\OneDrive is the location of the folder you want to fix)

press Enter on your keyboard

If these methods do not work, OneDrive files can still be accessed from different locations, including phone, tablet and online. Any single file from the OneDrive folder can be copied and pasted onto the desktop

and opened from there.

I'm holding my breath, Susan et al.  Excel seems to be working now, but I'm not sure if it will continue to do so.  I'll keep you all updated.

I learned that if I open Word (or Excel, or Powerpoint) and then go to File>Options>Trust Center>Protected View and uncheck all the boxes that enable Protected View, I can alleviate the errors when opening a file.
