Can’t open or save files after upgrading to Windows 10

It has now been 8 months and 56,939 inquiries on this topic.  

Does anyone have any idea when Microsoft plans to actually fix this issue?

My Microsoft office files close automatically after I open them. I have tried both workarounds. I have been opening them from my desktop. What should I do?

But the files are read only on One Drive, still cannot read in a normal way, does anyone have the same situation?

I have the same issue, Office files only opens in "Read Only" after upgrade to Windows 10.

I was able to resolve issue by doing the same steps above ( I copied and paste below)

1. In Win 10, Right-click on the Start button and choose Command Prompt (Admin)
2. Click Yes to the User Account Control prompt
3. In the command prompt, type the following command:

cd %userprofile%

press Enter on your keyboard 4. In the command prompt, type the following command:

cd OneDrive

press Enter on your keyboard 5. In the command prompt, type the following command:

icacls %userprofile%\OneDrive /inheritance:e

(where %userprofile%\OneDrive is the location of the folder you want to fix)

press Enter on your keyboard 6. Additional to that is going to the User profile folder >****propertiesand select Security Tab then click Edit and look for the user account and Put a check on the Allowthen apply and save.

I tried to do the first suggestion but it did not give me any Allow option. I did the second one and it said processed file: C: \Users\AbaAdmin\OneDrive . When I tried to save it, it did not show me the Word Document name. I went back then the system start the circle going around as it does many times until I have to go to Task manager since it does not close no matter how many times I click X to close it.

We are aware of this problem and will release a fix in an upcoming update. Here are 2 workarounds that have been successful for other Community members.

In Win 10, Right-click on the Start button and choose Run

1. type %userprofile% into the Run box and click OK to open your local profile folder
2. Double-click the OneDrive folder
3. When you get prompted to allow access, click to allow access. OR
4. In Win 10, Right-click on the Start button and choose Command Prompt (Admin)
5. Click Yes to the User Account Control prompt
6. In the command prompt, type the following command:

cd %userprofile%

press Enter on your keyboard 4. In the command prompt, type the following command:

cd OneDrive

press Enter on your keyboard 5. In the command prompt, type the following command:

icacls %userprofile%\OneDrive /inheritance:e

(where %userprofile%\OneDrive is the location of the folder you want to fix)

press Enter on your keyboard

If these methods do not work, OneDrive files can still be accessed from different locations, including phone, tablet and online. Any single file from the OneDrive folder can be copied and pasted onto the desktop

and opened from there.

My main issues with Windows 10 and Office 2013:

• Excel: if I clicked on File, nothing happened (not responding) -> crashed
• Word: Couldn't save or print (not responding)
• Outlook: couldn't print (not responding)

I tried above, didn't work..

I tried to repair Office 2013, didn't work.

Was thinking about going back to Windows 8, but had no idea where to find the product key of office.

What worked in my case?

Control Panel > Programs > Run programs made for previous version of Windows

And I deleted and re-installed my printer and disabled OneDrive..

I'm not an IT expert at all, just wanted to share this worked in my case..

It's a shame though, such issues.
