When I click on Assign Resources MS Project shuts down ?  Has this happened to others and is there a solution, or suggestions for a good around ?

I reported this problem to my contacts at Microsoft, and they found out what you are experiencing is a bug due to the "presence" indicator that comes through Outlook and Skype for Business.  The bug is now slated for fixing, but there is no timeline on when the bug fix will be released.  In the meantime, please try the following in Microsoft Project 2016 to disable the "presence" indicator for resources:

  1. Click File > Options > Display.
  2. DESELECT the "Online status next to name" checkbox.
  3. Click the OK button.

    Microsoft always uses the excuse that issues with their software is caused by whatever non-Microsoft  virus checker you are using.  I'm always take that response with a serious bit of skepticism.

    No,there is a free version which was the one I used. 

    I agree reed that it makes little sense to go down that road, but as mentioned I was pretty frustrated with this issue and needed to get it fixed, so I was ready to try anything. 

    I I had several calls to Microsoft trying to get them to help out but I have to say I was not impressed with MS' willingness in doing so.

    Don't you have to pay to get Wise Registry Cleaner to fix your registry issues? I'm surprised that this would work as it's not even a registry issue.

    Guys, this has been bugging me for so long, but I have this minute just make it work:-))) It is on Windows 7, so I can't say if it works on 10.

    I uninstalled project 2016, ran Wise Registry Cleaner - (it is free - and i am NOT a fan of these tools, however my frustration of no working fix from Microsoft was available made me just try anything) and let the program do a automatic repair. Rebooted, installed Project 2016, and behold, i could allocate ressources..YEAH:-)
