So, even though I had followed the instructions to install Office 2016 from Office 365 home, it was not successful even after 5 tries, restarting, uninstalling, restarting...my biggest issue is Visio 2013. I purchased it as I need it! But why can't I find any way to just upgrade Visio from 2013 to 2016? There is no instruction! I do not want to buy the new Visio 2016 when I only purchased Visio 2013 a few months ago. Please help!!!

This 'fail then re-do' type of approach is something we have seen in Office products before.
There was quite a while where Word would find a problem in a file, fail, fix whatever was the problem, then re-open the file.
The obvious question to that process is: If the program knows there is a problem, why can't it just fix it silently, without the user knowing anything?
We can ask something similar here: Why can't the installers just allow co-habitation, rather than forcing ejection, then allowing re-admittance?
Seems MS teams think it is OK to take users on a long journey, rather than just do it right once from the user's perspective.
Oh carp! This is even worse than I thought.
It is saying that you can't do a local install of Visio/Project, any year, with a carp-to-not-run 365 2016 installation.
First of all, that is BS. The whole point of CTR installations is to totally isolate them from local installations. So saying they can't mix is a
FLAT OUT LIE
If it was true, we would not have been able to install the 2016 Preview CTR alongside older local installs of Office.

2. According to Microsoft, this preview will NOT run side-by-side with any previously installed Office version. So you'll need to uninstall existing Office suite from your system before installing this free Preview of Office 2016. Although we were able to install Office 2016 Preview side-by-side with Office 2013 and we can run both versions (2013 as well as 2016) of all Office programs at the same time. I think if you installed previous Office version using Click-To-Run (C2R) installer, you can't install Office 2016 side-by-side. But if you installed previous Office version using offline ISO image or setup disc, you'll be able to install Office 2016 side-by-side with it.

I upgraded recently to Office 2016 via my Office 365 Home subscription. I was dismayed when Visio 2013 and Project 2013 were uninstalled. I have tried to use what web resources are available, but I am running in circles. I was quite willing to purchase the new Visio 2016 subscription, but I was told I cannot do that because I am an Office 365 Home user, not an Office 365 for Business user. On a lark, I tried to install Visio 2013 and low and behold, it installed! However, it refuses to activate because (apparently), once again, I do not have Office 365 for Business.
I have to ask, WHY is this even an issue? If someone is willing to pay for the software, why should they not be allowed to have and use it? Having it is how I stay current and (hopefully) employable as a technical writer in the near future.
Please try and help me understand this so I can continue to use the superb tools Microsoft provides to help me do mu job and more. Thank you.

I'm still waiting for someone to "reach out" to me via a Private Message.
The Office Support team tells me to await a solution which MS is allegedly working on. This is a little disingenuous, since MS obviously knew about the problem before the Office 2016 Preview was released, as the installation program carried the warning that all Office 2013 products would be delete. Now, if MS hasn't been able to come up with a solution in the intervening 6 months, what is the likelihood of them doing so in the next 6, or 12? Will I still have to run Office 2013 in order to retain my Visio 2013 when Office 2020 is released?
Perhaps MS has one solution for North America (upgrade perpetual licence for Visio 2013 to one for Visio 2016) and another for the Rest of the World (live with it)?
