How do I convert .wps files to word 2016?

How do I convert files created on a vista system with .wps extensions to be read/used in word 2016.  Unable to find any converters on the office web site.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=12 should work with 64 bit Windows, but may not work with 64 bit versions of Word. It only works with files from Works versions 6 to 9. For earlier Works versions you will need the very old filters linked from the downloads page of my web site.

Alternatively, use File Merlin to convert the files to Word format.

    After trying ALL the suggestions in this community AND nothing working, I took  a gamble and called Microsoft Support AGAIN.  This time, I spoke to SABIYA IKRAM, who remotely took over my computer, and found the solution.

    She connected to FileHippo, downloaded the converter, and Voila, I was able to convert my Vista Works .wps files and read them in Word and save them as docx file.

    I tried downloading the converter from that site, but it did not work.  I took one of the files that we could not open successfully to my other system with office 2003 on it.  When I attempted to open the file there, office told me I need a different converter, and took me to the right location on Microsoft office web site to download the converter I needed.  I was then able to open the files.  I then copied that converter to the W10 system with office 2016, installed it, reset the app default on that system to use word to open .wps files and it now works fine.

    This converter has a digital signature of 4/23/2012, and a product version of 14.0.6119.5000 and is 1.41 mb.  The name is WorksConv.exe.

    Assuming the .wps files are Works files, you should be able to open them automatically since Word comes with converters for most versions of Works. If they were created in a version of Works before Works 6, you can find older converters at http://www.gmayor.com/downloads.htm.
