Phantom Drop down boxes in excel 2016

I use lots of data validation drop down list and recently some phantom boxes have been appearing in my spreadsheets.  You can select the grey arrow but the list is empty.  You then select the cell to get the correct data validation list, which appears to overlay the the box.  Can anyone help?  I created a new spreadsheet from scratch and it appeared to have fixed it but today i opened the spreadsheet and once again i have phantom drop down lists!!!

I removed all the data validation from the cell and it still remained!

Can anyone help?

    My apologies. I forgot that I had signed up to be a Microsoft Insider and that I could potentially receive bug fixes sooner than most people. However, my understanding, at the time, from Microsoft was that the bug fix went to everyone. It could well be that it did indeed just go to Microsoft Insiders for a brief test period. And if that is indeed the case, give it a couple more weeks and the bug patch will roll out to everyone. If it has not already.

    Hello Thao,

      No trying to be rude with you personally by any means, but,

      Unfortunately your answer is very confusing, first of all, according to user P-ER-Amstrong's post on June-11 the patch has been already released.. so are you saying that it is not true?

     Second, you are mentioning that the patch will be released in the build 6868.xxxx , having in mind that the most updated version that we have is the 16.0.6741.2048 that means that we will have to wait for an unknown/uncertain number of builds before the solution?... how many?... or better yet WHEN (date) the build that you are mentioning will reach us the users?

      And last, what exactly means "Insider build" and "non-Insider" ?, I'm sure that for the majority of the regular users that sound only like gibberish that don't contribute to clarify anything, so please clarify in non-technical language.

      The main point here to be clear is the WHEN (date) the patch will be released, any other esoterically number is just that...a number without any meaning.

    Hello all.

    The fix will be in build 6868.xxxx.  If you are on an Insider build, you will get the fix soon than non-Insider.  Eventually everyone will get the fix.

    chating with a MS technician now... this are his answers:

    "Thank you for that information. We'll raise this up now to our engineering team, Once a patch for this is available within today it will be sent out to your computer via Windows Update or email your . My recommendation for the meantime is to keep checking the Windows Update Option. "... and then

    "The case is still unresolved. And I can't open it here on my end, someone is still holding the case."

    Oh... well.... another day on MS paradise

    06/11/2016 - FANTASTIC NEWS everyone. Very recently, Microsoft FINALLY released a patch to Excel 2016. Update your software. The bug in the software is now fixed! No more phantom dropdown boxes!!

    And to Microsoft tech support monitoring this, pass along my thanks for fixing this problem. <Case number removed for privacy>.

    The patch is for what version of excel?...

    Asking because I do have a Office 2016 Pro-plus Subscription, using Excel version 16.0.6741.2048, running on Windows 7 Pro 64bits on my office PC and the problem still there.

    I just waste few hours trying to find the issue, thanks to this thread I learned of the bug, I already tried to find out if an update was available, but is not.

    Is there something that I'm not seeing or not aware of?

    How I can access the case to put an update on it?
