What worked for me (may or may not be the same issue others are having):
So first I uninstalled Microsoft Office via add/remove programs from control panel. Then go to the Microsoft site to download the installer.
When you choose to "Install Office" from the Office 365 Home account page a window with the installer link pops up and it is set to "Default version, English. On the right of this select "other options" and another box opens up and the second drop down box
says "Choose a version" It will be set to Office - Default version (default) which is defaulted to a 32bit installer. If you're running a 64bit OS click the drop down option and select the appropriate version, in my case "Office - 64-bit"
Using this installer I was able to get past that first splash screen and successfully install windows.
